Jordan Hasay Monaco DL

No question she is a fine runner but not on the world stage. She's been on a gilded path and seems devoid of personality. The association with Salazar has hurt her at least a couple of times this year alone. She's a cute little wind-up doll who has probably reached 90% of her ceiling. Five laps in Monaco and she was cooked. It was like the Make-a-Wish Foundation made Hasey's dream of being on a DL starting line come true.

Considering JH has had so much consistency (never missed seasons due to injury) over her running career it is obvious she is not going to improve much more. She is in the "salubrious" NOP and she is still not living up to expectation. Rowbury has run seen significant improvement since being with AlSal,so now what's the excuse for JH? She is was phenomenal at HS, decent in the NCAA, but she has to be the most overhyped athlete.

It's awfully hard to take you seriously when you (presumably) grew up speaking English, present yourself as some kind of an 'expert analyst' on the subject of running, offer your 'analysis' on a website with the word 'Run' in the freaking title, for Christ's sake,... and yet somehow have passed through all your years on Earth without noticing how the word is used.

It's an amazing thing.

I mean, yeah, sure, in theory, you could be illiterate, and still have some reasonable opinions about the subject in question,... but, honestly, when your basic command of the language is that pathetically deficient, it's pretty damn hard to take your opinion seriously on anything.

You're also wrong about both Hasay and Huddle, for good measure,... but you really lost me as soon as I saw that you can't use the word 'run' in a sentence that's not in present tense.

Rowbury has in fact run a couple of significant PRs since joining Salazar's group, but she brought a 4:00.X and an 8:31 into the mix. 3:59 and especially 14:48 were as close to guaranteed as anything in running ever is. She simply hasn't focused on the 5,000 until this year.

To expect Hasay to make the jump to the same level short of literal magic is insane. One might even argue that Hasay has made bigger gains since joining AlSal than Rowbury has, going only by time shaved from PRs. But Hasay obviously started at and remains at a lower level in absolute terms. No one is out there complaining that Centro hasn't broken Webb's mile AR (which he yet may) or Levins has yet to crack 27:00 -- I meen if Rupp can smash American records, why don't his teammates follow suit?

None of this shit is remotely fair to Jordan Hasay. Some people here "get" this even while criticizing her, while others seek only to bash. And it's not that she's not meeting unreasonable expectations that underlies this, it's plain scorn for the NOP and Salazar personally, and AlSal has more or less done everything to both create and enhance a very low regard for his methods (both known and suspected) and his public behavior if not his results.

For one fifth of a race. Awesome, I bet the DL organizers are so impressed.

No improvement under Salazar? Hasay has set personal bests 15 times over this past year. Can anyone out there claim the same improvement? People forget a week earlier she ran a 4:07:70 1500 (another PB). Unfortunately, in this dreaded sport called Track and Field, people only remember your last race.

Hasay is doing fine. I'm optimistic she'll lower her 5000m to 15:1x at some point this outdoor season, but if not, her racing life will go on.

The things to be watching for are her 3k/2M times next indoor season and what kind of 10k she manages next year at outdoor worlds [presuming she makes the US team.] If she continues to improve her PRs next year, great; if not, Salazar will have to reconsider his approach with her.

p.s. The "Diamond League" isn't a meritocracy, it's a circus. Hasay's act has a certain amount of commercial appeal and her agent has a ton of clout, so she gets [small] roles in that circus.

Whether or not Hasay has made significant improvement is beside the point. The OP argues that she should not have been in the field because she is not fast enough.

Huddle and Rowbury (along with Simpson) are at a different level than the rest of the American women in a 5k right now. On a day they both set pbs they were still running for 6th or 7th place. Hasay is still at the level of the top NCAA women.

Why enter her in a WC final caliber field when everyone knows she will finish well at the back (if she finishes at all)?
