Tuohy ran smart and controlled. Not sure what was risky about it at all. She blew by Valby which is what you want to do. She gave no help/pacing assistance. If she tailed her, you’ll see on occasion runners who by their own telling don’t have a kick find something .
You don't want anyone to get an 11 sec. lead in such a relatively short race. Hindsight is 20/20 and it worked out but it was more risky than tailing Valby right away
Did you even watch the race? It wasn't that risky for her.. lol
Not Seymour, but Nevada Moreno gets MVP! By far her best college performance in 24th, about 50 points better than target! and her time was around the old course record at 20:07.
With this performance, NC state could have won with any of Rauber 5, Seymour 6, Quarzo 7 counting as 5th runner.
The amount of pressure on her was about as much as can be put on a collegiate runner, and a LOT of people couldn't wait for her to get beat. Strong physically, but just as importantly super mentally tough as well. That was a fun race to watch.
I’m deeply offended by the repeated questioning about the hilly course. Is he suggesting these brave girls are over the hill? Why such obsession with mounds? What a lack of commonsense knoll-edge, tsk tsk. Such poor man-ners hanging in that crowd.
Dude I tried to talk some sense into you and tell you no one is doing drugs
I mean look at the results they're exactly what you would expect from the track results in the spring
It's obvious she was gettin A lot of mania based on running fast on short fast courses! I told you no one's doing drugs because you'd have to be an idiot to start this young and when there's no real money
You have to race as if the normal rules apply. Valby went out too fast and overestimated her strength on a tough course and Tuohy was smart enough not to go with her. If Valby was so strong she could have stayed away on that pace then there would have been nothing anyone could do. And Tuohy's training all year paid off. She kept practicing hammering the last 1.5k.
Does anyone here have Valby's splits? Did she slow in the final klicks?

For sure this was the difference. UNM had an 11 second spread(!) and packed 5 runners into 14 spots (20-24). Even tighter than I would have thought. It was really going to be down to NCSUs #4 and #5, and #5 was not a great performance w 74 points...
