If Tanner's win (2 sec) is your definition of "wrecking people", I'd like to know what term you'd use for what Grant did to the field in just a minute and a half?

I'd call it utter destruction, and the most decisive win at a national championship since Futsum winning NXN or Verzbicas winning FLN. Tanner's win was decisive even if he only finished 2 seconds ahead of Hacker. Hacker was never trying to win. People who try to win against Tanner--Dressel, Barnard--find it very painful and pretty much impossible.Why can't you accept that both Anderson and Fisher are incredible runners, and are a cut above the other high school Xc runners this season?

We all post on this anonymous board so that's a moot point. I know for sure that one of the mentioned athletes didn't have the full support of their team. There's an upside to running with your team and an upside to running at FL, not sure if both have a downside. Being part of a team is simply that and these two are not good team mates.

If one of them didn't have the full support of their team then those "teammates" are the ones that are not good teammates, not Maton or Dressel.

Agree with the point about Hacker never going for the win at NXN. He never challenged Tanner. It also looked as if Tanner was running under control, hard, but under control. He even slowed down to look around about 50m from the finish.

Tanner also crushed a lot of those same runners that Fisher did at NXNW and WA state. He gained the same gap on Dressel at the WA state meet, where Dressel didn't fall down.

Both Tanner and Fisher are amazing runners. I wish we could have seen them race in XC. Maybe, like someone said on the boards, a 5k on the track could be organized in June and let the national class athletes see who could break 14:00?

Ugh. Stop rationalizing Anderson's win. He won by 2 seconds in a 15:00 race. He had his hands on his knees immediately after the finish. Hacker was coming on hard down the stretch, so he didn't "slow down to look around". If he did he was probably scared sh!tless when he saw Hacker.Fisher put 10 seconds on a stronger field in just a minute and a half (...and he too "slowed down to look around" a time or two after his move).And if we're referencing races from earlier in the season, remember when Anderson lost to Mantz?

Tullyrunners has published pretty reasonable, un-state-biased speed ratings between NXN and FLN. Hacker and Anderson were both in the 201/202 range for their respective races. Fisher's 205 reflects his real/theoretical 8-10 second gap over those two.

Everyone remembers Galen Rupp got 2nd to Withrow. Everyone uses FL placings as the determination of highschool excellence, not NXN. America is about development of the individual. You socialists need to stop ruining XC/track with the socialism, group think, white guilt, "You didn't build that," Obama Marxism. All the team stuff is just a farce added onto individual sports. In fact we need to open state championships to solo runners from HS who buck control of their HS coach/team.
