Emma Coburn is frustrated...calls people out

I agree some what; however, generally we do know what the pace is. Also, I have watched the video of that race 3 times and Emma was already working hard 3 quarters into the race and I don't think her results would have been much different no matter what the pace was. To me, the ladies who are more legit milers should have a bigger gripe. Either way, you have to run your race to get out of it what you want.

A separate issue: I heard Allyson Felix made close to a million dollars before her 19th birthday, Mary Cain could surpass that. Right now she is probably getting a hefty appearance fee and she is getting the money for winning...at this rate she will be commanding top tier rates on the European circuit.

For the record, the paces for ALL the races at Millrose were posted in the athlete office on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For the women's mile it as 64 at 440y and 2:10 at 880y. For the men it was 57 and 1:55.

In the women's race, nobody went with Heather (who hit the quarter right on 64), so I told her to slow down. In the men's race, they lined right up behind Brian and it all worked out very nicely.

Have you seen the new balance kit the girls race in? It's not covering up that much more than her cover photo. I don't understand why anybody would be upset with that photo or how you could argue it's unprofessional. This thread just turned into a bash on emma contest.

Your topless women at the beach statement is even dumber: Those women aren't being paid form their looks, some women are in fact paid to be topless on fan pages (sports illustrated swimsuit edition, Katee Upton, etc), and emma is not topless nor bottomless in her pictures.

Interesting that some people suspect that the earlier slow pace was deliberately done so that Alexa would not break Mary's record.

I don't believe that. At least not from Al or Mary.

But perhaps it is believable from Nike who see Mary as a money-maker and they just do not yet want to see their most prized asset have her value diminished until they have maximized their revenue from her efforts.

Perhaps Nike does not want Alexa's value to go up so they can bag her on the cheap should she also go pro in the next year or two.

The whole "slow pace because of Efraimson thing" is ridiculous. She came into the race with a 4:39 mile PR. She'd run possibly one indoor race before in her life. Alexa is going to run some fast times and it's going to be sooner rather than later. When you're someone like Cain, WC finalist, are you going to worry about some high school kid? That sure is some weak thinking.

I am a fan of neither rabbits nor tactical (gutless) racing. All the track elitists will take their usual condescending stance and tell me I have no knowledge of track racing, but I'll continue to let it slide off my back. RACING is not a rabbited time trial, nor is it a cowardly game of "tactics" to see who can kick the best off a jogger's pace. I'm sure it's not stated as such in Websters, but RACING should be a group of people flat-out taking it to each other to see who can run the fastest on a given day.

Glad to see you guys are thinking ahead. I wasn't criticizing millrose. I just think it should be done for all events for the hard-core fans.

Can you tell us how 2:10 was determined? Did Alberto Salazar request 2:10?

Tactical doesn't have to mean gutless. Running hard from the start is a tactic too.

Cain was supposed to go w/ the rabbit. I doubt Coburn whose p.r is 4:29 was looking for 4:20 pace, rather looking to get pulled along to a fast time. Cain on the other hand has been talking about breaking 4;20 asks for the pace and then just pusses out and then bitchkicks everyone in the last 400.

It has been answered about a million times on this thread but i'll answer for you just so you actually get it...Coburn isn't in 4:20 shape, so that rabbit was not for her and not a tactic she should have taken. But, she was hoping that the rabbit (as requesterd by Nike) would make it an overall faster race, in which she could maybe get a PR. She even says in the interview that she was excited to see all these girls run fast times and be in a fast race. She's just frustrated it ended up being tactical when she wanted a fast race and a chance at a PR. She isn't saying its not fair, just not the race wanted. Obviously every runner has a hope of how the race is going to be run. Coburn just has the stones to admit she was hoping for a differnt outcome. Simple as that.

Most of the posters here are idiots. She was frustrated bc a very fast rabbit ( a faster one than she and others would have probably liked) was requested, and the very people who requested it waited for anyone else to step up to the plate. Coburn didnt go with the rabbit bc she was not trying to run an AR! Quite frankly, I think moser is tired of carrying Mary through races, and Mary didnt want to be leading when the rabbit stepped off. I applaud coburn for sacrificing herself to lead even though she knew she would be out kicked. At least she can feel better about herself than the other women in the race who waited to be out kicked by the kid AND ran a slower time than they could have if SOMEONE went with the rabbit. I'm tired of this shit. I want a true 1500/ miler who is not afraid to lose to a 17 year old go out there and try to really race her, even if they crash and burn. As much as I hope she can count laps this time, Simpson is my choice.
