That was an all time great race. His form is beautiful to watch, like Lagat on the track, perfectly powerful and efficient for the pace he's running.

I haven't felt this way about a race since Bekele was setting records on the track. For a while it was like the Kenyans were setting WR by accident, but finally we have an all time great runner with an all time great performance, running alone and smashing a record.

GOAT? Call me in 40 years if he beats Ed Whitlock's 2:54:48 when he's 73. Then I'll be convinced.

It looks like Berlin took some cues from Breaking 2 w/ a dotted 'tangent' line throughout the course, and it looked like the cyclists rode ahead and grabbed bottles for him off the tables. I thought that was part of what made the Monza race illegal?

Berlin has had these dotted lines since at least 2007 (I ran there).

As for the bottles part, they are only allowed to hand him bottles in the official drinks stations and he has to take them (they have to stand on the side of the road and can't cycle next to him).

Why would anyone want to run 26.2 miles?

the margin should not get smaller and smaller... that is a blunder in your head.... we're not that close to the max as yet really in any running event.

What a man, what an athlete, what a legend. I'm really happy for Kipchoge. Unreal performance. I'm just glad for once the conditions were good (not even perfect, that wasn't necessary for the GOAT)

He should do Boston and NY next year, no need to go for other WR attempts. (Unless he thinks 2:00 or even sub2 is on the table in a legit marathon)

Maybe, but like BJ and Bolt, Kipchoge has beaten everybody, ever—whether doped or not.

Also, the beginning of both BJ’ and Bolt’s eras were marked by setting WR’s that were shy of what they ultimately achieved—9.83 for BJ, and 9.69 for Bolt.

Both ultimately lowered their own WR’s to 9.77 effective for BJ and 9.58 for Bolt, both very significant improvements.

As insane as it sounds, if Kipchoge gets another good shot with good pacers, conditions, course, and conditioning, IMO he could lower this record even further.
