He ran that fast today because he has improved his technique since last year. His first foot out of the blocks set up his acceleration, and he didn't get himself into the big gear until later than usual. He usually throws that first step out but today he got it under his power.
A very nice run, and if he continues to run the first 50 out of the blocks like that, he may run faster.

You are absolutely correct, he actually mentioned in a H.S. interview that he had ADHD and required medicine. TN was also aware of this but no paperwork was ever filed; generally athletes don't file exemption paperwork, coaches and administrators do that. Gatlin never attempted to fight the first bust because it didn't entail a suspension, it only becomes an issue because he got busted a second time. To be fair, Gatlin is absolutely an ex-doper and although technically he has been busted twice, but if you know the story, the first time can be excused.

Forget about rats, all of the human dopers I know started to decline with in months of stopping. Most athletes in all sports can't come near their doping performances a season or two after they quit.
I have seen documentaries on steroids and within a few weeks of stopping a cycle a weightlifter was doing 50 percent less in totals than he did before.
Pft. The guy never broke 9.8 when he was doped. What makes anyone think this 9.74 was legit? And not to mention he's 33 years old.

He got screwed by the system for his first bust (wasn't it even worse that he had done the paperwork for the NCAA but not the USATF/IAAF?), and because of that, got doubly screwed with the second bust, having to serve four years (only after appeal), rather than two, and continues to get screwed in the court of the public opinion of armchair drug experts.One thing in Gatlin's favor is that he didn't compete for four years, saving four years of the wear and tear on his body caused by continuous competition. He's 33 now, but shouldn't be compared to other 33 year olds who competed continuously.
