It’ll be interesting to see what he can crank out for 5K next week. That’ll probably end up being his best Olympic distance. His consistent pace and 1500m speed are perfect for winding it up at the end of a 5K. He could be much more deadly at 5K versus 1500, especially in slow races like we have at the WCs/OGs.

You are blind. There was no intentional contact from Jakob. If anything Cheruiyot drifted out as Jakob was trying to pass. The arm movements of both athletes were only because of the contact knocking them slightly off balance. Neither guy was pushing the other or purposely making contact.

Actually, now I'm wondering if Jakob's best event would be the 3000. Could he threaten 7:20?
Gonna go out on a limb and say he can definitely get the Euro record of 7:26, which itself is the top 5-6th time ever.

When Tim decides to spurt past Jakob and retake the lead, both enjoy a healthy little gap on the rest of the field, yet as soon as Tim is back in front, Grice and the others come on to Jakob's shoulder, while Jakob is still staying close to Tim.

All things considered it was a great time and performance from Jakob. His momentum was totally chopped up by Tim, who clearly now sees him as a close rival rather than somebody who is going to finish seconds behind him in a time trial.
I'm really not sure why you or anyone thinks that Cheryuiot is supposed to act as Jakob's personal pacemaker.
It was a race. Chopping the pace is a great tactic which hurts a lot of competitors. Cheryuiot knows he can out-kick most.
Jakob was more than welcome to take the race out hard from the beginning and run a sub 3:30 time. This is not a local open meeting it's an elite diamond league competition.

If he wants the gold he's best advised to avoid the nonsense he pulled in Monaco as he would have provided the risk of a DQ if a protest was filed.
Jakob made a move to the front when the pace was slowing. Happens all the time. A little incidental contact, but nothing that even required a push on the back by Tim. That's how competitive runners race and win.

He can't run 3:27 by following Cheryuiot around and complaining Cheryuiot wasn't running fast enough.
If he wants to win AND run a fast time then he needs to be prepared to take the lead and run away from the field.

Amateur move by Jakob, who is inexperienced at the front of elite level races, relative to Timothy.
Jakob cut in way too soon, seemingly having a panic attack because he was desperate to be on the rail before the bend. He didn't complete passing before he moved sideways, straight into Timothy, who without altering his arm movement at all found himself touching Jakob's left side/back.
Timothy stayed cool as a cucumber and embarrassed Jakob into oblivion.

What I have not read in this thread is that Timothy Cheruiyot was not interested in 3'28. He wanted to run faster than that, and after Lausanne, he had legitimate reasons for this.
Jakob still sees sub-3'30 as fast, so there is still a little gap, also mental, between the two.
I am curious to see which of the super strong juniors will be able to improve most in the future.
They have already trained hard for years in top groups, so I really don't know if they will have the progression that is more or less normal between 18 and 22.
You've obviously never run a race at any competitive level before. Things like this happen, it isn't necessarily intentional, there are a lot of people there and people throw elbows all the time. Kenyans, Norwegians, Americans - we all do it when we race.
