Boston Marathon Bib Fraud

She was removed from the 34043 bib number photos, but you can still see her at marathonfoto.com by looking up the husband #34001. Unfortunately, you can't link there. It's worth the search to see how bad these people are. There's a photo of them taking a selfie too at the finish line.

cause you see I have run several and thought I knew, and had no idea it somehow relates to what I think about bandits at races

basically what I think is that there are consequences in life: you train hard you improve, you overtrain you get hurt, you break the rules and get caught then consequences like a lifetime ban from Boston can apply, everyone decides whether to drive the speed limit or not at some point it is reckless

what the foursquare people did is akin to driving a red ferrari past a cop 25mph above the speed limit and then basically saying who cares because you can afford the ticket

it will be interesting if any consequences are applied. I'd like to think if they ban any young college age runners for life that they would also ban both the Crowleys. And if there are no consequences then the banditing will just increase. Why people could not just copy their buddy's # and leave it at that I don't understand. Instead they copy a stranger's and wonder why there is trouble.

I think next year I will enter using Meb's # and start at the front. Not because I am fast anymore or have earned it but because I want to and feel I am worth it.

And in Boston it was almost accepted that there was a large number of bandits. It was part of the lore of Boston. When I ran a few years back I met a guy on a bus that told me he was going to bandit the marathon. I thought nothing of it.

This year was different. With the security increase one year after the bombing, these bandits are flat out stupid. They knew there would be an increase in security and that officials would be cracking down on bandits. It is no longer accepted or 'cool'. To me, forging a bib is much worse than just jumping in the race and running. I guess with the forgery you are passing yourself off as an actual qualified runner. If you run with no bib, everyone knows you are a bandit.

They took a risk. They got caught.

Louis is racing his debut marathon in May (Vermont City) so it would make no sense for him to be one of the bandits

Her bib number was 34043. Her husbands was 34001. She didn\'t copy the bib from the internet. She copied her husband\'s and moved the numbers around. That is an easier way to get a high quality bib.

My wife and I rarely finish together. I am must faster than she is.

Hundreds? I wouldn't be surprised if it was dozens of people who photocopied someone else's bib, but hundreds, even for a race as big as Boston was this year, seems like an exaggeration. What I don't understand is why someone would copy a 2nd or 3rd wave bib. If you're going to do it, why not put yourself in a position to start in one of the front corrals of wave 1.

Who garners more respect?

1. Boston Bib Bandits.

2. Color Run 5kers who pay.

I condone this behavior and demand more from my athletes. These novelty racers should face a lifetime ban from jogging.

Letsrun.com should make an internet repository for all race cheaters, including full names, addresses, family members, mug shots as well as the crimes they have committed.

Like another poster said, Boston has always been known as a race frequently bandited (is that a word). I think of it no different as speeding or not wearing your seat belt. You can certainly get away with it but don't cry if you get busted or don't like the consequences. If any year you shouldn't bandit would be the year after the bombing.

Leaving aside for the moment the sense of entitlement that came across in the case of the Crowleys (and I'll admit I was pretty annoyed about that), another cause for concern is that there could be copycats whose motives are a LOT more dangerous than a desire to run Boston (or whatever race they forge a bib for the purpose of getting into a corral).

Might someone use that ploy to get an explosive into a crowded corral?

People who use this route need to think about unintended consequences.

Of course, race organizers, now aware of this type of forgery will likely add yet another layer of security--with entry fees going up accordingly.

Boston College is known for having more than its fair share of entitled brats.

These individuals seem to fit the bill.
