as someone mentioned it will be interesting to see what this traininig block does for Mo's track ability....i already could not fathom how a guy as skinny as Mo (especially in his upper legs/butt) could generate enough power to run 3'28''. if he really is ~4lbs lighter from M training as reported, it may take him a while to get that 'pop' back that is needed for him to dominate in the track.
i'll be Salazar is waiting by the squat rack at NOP HQ with open arms, ready give Mo a hug/pat on the rear, then get his arse back to work! (the work that made him dominant at 5K/10K and better than anyone could have fathomed at 1500).

What pretty much everybody in this thread is missing is the Old School element of all this. Mo didn't play it safe. HE TRIED. He put it out there. And when the going got (very) rough, he didn't quit. He didn't faint. No DNF. He gutted it out. He did all this knowing, as many here know, that a 1500 runner has no business trying to remanufacture himself into a marathoner in such short order.
Bill Rodgers dropped out of HIS first marathon at mile 20. "Obviously not made for the marathon." I can only imagine what the LR chorus would have hooted at him, were this troll-pit operational.

No, he is not one of the all-time greats until he runs fast enough times and beats great opponents. Those medals are weak.

Wow. That's some run and certainly not flat. His average heart rate was 128 which is incredible to me.

1) Mo finishing with Geoff and Manny Mutai is insignificant because of the differing architecture of their respective races.
2) The fact that Ryan Hall debuted on this course in 2:06 really gives credence to the Kellog/letsrun theory of why Mo will not excel in the marathon. Remember, Hall was never able to break 4 minutes in the mile.
3) Even though Ritz has run 12:56, I believe he is more of a Hall type and should be training with a true marathon coach/group.
4) Nike should form a rehab/marathon training group consisting of Hall, Ritz, Teg, and that big dude who broke 27 min.
