On Friday, Myles Hogan of Princeton and Fordham Prep lowered the Van Cortlandt course record in winning the Heptagonals. Cross country has been run at VCP for over 100 years and Hogan's 23:26 on a slow, historic course should be significant.
I telephoned both former NYRR Board Chairman George Hirsch and current Chairperson Nnenna Lynch to suggest that the NYRR recognize the historic accomplishment in New York running by inviting Hogan to be a guest at the marathon finish area. Hirsch told me that he didn't think they would do it. Ms. Lynch wrote back that no more finish line tickets were available. I doubt that either of them checked with anyone at the NYRR because they knew in advance that the answer would be "No".
I guess they realize that the people at NYRR are only interested in money from their big time races, money from their weekly "races" with huge fields of joggers, and their own high salaries. They have no need or incentive to be innovative.
I'm pretty sure that Lebow would have reached out to the VCP course record holder without a second thought.
