How do we rate this Klecker debut? Not great by any means, but 2:10 in New York is far from terrible and probably an improvement from what he’s done on the roads so far.
Sadly looks like he DNFed, looks like he dropped around mile 17/18 on the live tracking. Him and Kipchoge are still legends no matter what, but it looks like the books may finally be closing on an era
This may be my Minnesota bias coming out but MDE seems to do a fantastic job of developing marathoners. They certainly don’t get the firepower of some of the other teams around the country but ended up with top American man (Reichow) and second woman (Frisbie), who along with Popehn and others continue to progress and outperform expectations. Fun to see, hats off to Chris Lundstrom.

It has to be viewed as solid. He did his race plan, be conservative and close well. He probably could of swung for the fences and been closer to Hicks and Joel Reichow, but he also could of blown up like Hillary Bor and others.
He could probably run a 2:08 on a faster course. A good start to his marathon career.

Lundstrom is highly underrated. Better than any marathon coach in Flag or Boulder or Mammoth.
Is there actually a podium at majors? Or we do we just make up that 3rd is way better than 4th?
Thanks for that correction, I forgot that this is the NCAA marathon champs.
According to official sources, top 3 is the podium here.
NCAA is ridiculous with what they refer to as the podium. Just because more than the top 3 get to stand on a box to be recognized after the race doesn't mean they are all "the podium". Every sophisticated event recognizes the podium as equivalent to the standard medals - gold, silver, bronze.

Both runners totally overlooked in the marathon lead up.

I don't know how they do it with brutal winters and no altitude, but thier recent track record speaks for itself. MDE knows how to develop marathoners. If you're an unsponsored post collegiate runner with a dream, maybe think about moving to Minnesota?
