Rupp is running boston, scared of running a real marathon

Its money.

That's the only reason anyone would try run a fast marathon. Why should he travel when he only has a couple in him and the money is local?

I'm not mad at Galen for running Boston. However, Boston should try to attract more international talent. I get why they don't as the casual runner doesn't even know who Eliud Kipchoge is.

Rupp does what he has to do... i.e getting a paycheck and planning for a rainy day when he is no longer running. But that the quality of the marathons run on US soil is going down the drain is clear as day... A couple of top guys there for a fat check, then few sub-elite locals and then nothing. 30th ranked at the NYM ran 2.31', which i think is worse than mid '80's...

Blame it on poorly chosen courses in the name of "tradition" and lack of pace makers if you wish.... also American elite seem somehow skittish to go racing abroad.... on the other hand you gotta hand it to Mo to have the balls to run London (not that he had any other choice)

So yes good luck Galen winning your second "minor"....

I actually called him and tried to convince him to run London with me. I mean, I no longer train with him, but I always liked to race against him. Anyway, he politely declined my invitation. The call was a bit awkward to say the least. I hope that one day he can understand my decision to leave the group. At this point, I think he is simply viewing it as an attack. I wish him luck in Boston.

Galen Rupp is so good that even him winning Boston would be viewed as not impressive, and anything worse than 1st would be a complete embarrassment.

I'm sure I'll see all of you over on the Bostons Woman's line up thread complaining about Shalane running Boston instead of London as well.

Sounds about right, everyone rips him constantly and then pretends he is their favorite runner ever in the Olympics. I'm not a big fan, more because he has no personality over anything else, but the guy just continues to have a great career while getting crapped on.

Rupp is at his peak now and giving up the chance to race Kipchoge who is the very best and would give him a great chance to run fast. Perhaps not to win the race, but that is not entirely out of the question, also the drama to race his former training partner, Farah would be interesting as well.

Running Boston if the weather is perfect, temperature wise can produce a fast time (given that there is not a substantial tail wind). But Boston weather is very fickle in April and the runners are always at the mercy of the weather. Whereas London almost always has great running conditions.

From a pure racing perspective, Rupp is a fool to not line up at London against all the marathon greats plus Mo. the only reasons I can think he is doing Boston is money and marketing. A true gamer at his peak would jump at the chance to race that field, even without appearance money. It’s a golden racing opportunity.

And maybe Rupp gets more criticism he deserves around here, but that’s because he has no personality, the relationship with Alberto is just weird, the vagaries of the NOP, and he doesn’t seem to do much for sport or other American runners as a whole, except serve as someone to beat for the other Americans.

there's also berlin this year lol, he can go for a fast time there later if he wants vs kipchoge, London isn't do or die and winning Boston would be great no matter what anyone says

lmfao, Rupp the REASON American distance running is any good these days, if it wasn't for Rupp we'd be nothing still just participating. Rupp has inspired and motivated so many people here to run and compete with the Africans, and it wouldn't have happened without him, just deal with it
