Goucher had a 4:12/8:54/15:28 prs at age 22. Hasay will have destroyed them all by seasons end. That said I'm not suggesting she'll win medals, but time wise and appeal wise the above poster is not far off. She could end her career with similar prs. 4:05/8:34/14:54/30:55.

How does she compare to Emma? How do you think she would do in the steeple

The poster is far off as he said that Kara wasn't extremely fast. A medal and podium finish at a marathon major = extremely fast.

Hasay may accomplish that but the comparison the poster made wasn't of their PRs at 22 years old. To imply that Goucher was popular mostly because of looks and that her results weren't a significant reason are asinine.

Why make a big deal about an also-ran? For sure, if she was living in Kenya rather than Oregon with that PB, she would not be getting into that meet.

Well for starters, her being in this meet sure has you talking about it, giving the meet publicity and I'm sure you'll tune in to watch the women's 5000m. Unlike you, a lot of us at LetsRun are rooting for Hasay to succeed and lower her PRs even if by a few seconds here and there. She's got a good agent and I'm sure Salazar has some pull at getting his athletes in these big DL races (Centro, Rowbury, Hasay)

10/10 This is an excellent example of the many aspects of professional racing that "coach d" just doesn't get. Hasay had the intelligence to run in a high profile Oregon program, which set her up with an opportunity to sign a pro contract with Nike and a coach like Salazar. These are precisely the reason she is running in this race. She has the appeal, the sponsorship and the coaching to "get a pass" and an opportunity to get experience running against the big girls of the sport. This experience will only make her better in the future. Rather than be excited for her, coach d goes into one of his misguided by typical rants. Enough already, coach d. We all know you well, well enough to know that you have an agenda and that you are seldom correct with your "predictions" on this board.

She's in the DL because of Salazar and NOP. That is it. Her time is sub-standard for the 5000m at a DL, same as it was at the GP in Glasgow.

Bottom line is its all about connections. No, its not "fair" that she is in the field when there are faster 5000m runners, but that is life.

It's pretty clear it's an autocorrect. He meant to write fit. If you were a genius you'd be able to figure that simple one out by looking at a keyboard and the sentence,

Also maybe you don't know that intelligence and sentence structure on a forum (or anywhere) aren't related? Being able to use logic however is. So he succeeded and you failed. Ironic?

Smart post, but one might broaden the point. In every avenue of life some doors are easier to open because of who one knows, where one has been, the college one has attended, et cetera, and there's nothing "unfair" about this at all. But ease of entry doesn't mean that that entryway will always be there, nor does it mean it will always be more difficult for others to enter it.

It is unfortunate but all the fanaticism and unrealistic hype involving this very privileged 22-year-old has made me not like her. I had a dog once who just assumed everyone loved her and while she was a lovely dog, that was not always a fair assumption to make. Hasey's in her own little bubble and a lot of people admire her but the dynamics seem a bit creepy to me sometimes. If she runs 15:25 at Monaco this board will explode but all the adulation seems misdirected. She'll be 40-50 seconds behind the winner. It's like cheering someone for hitting a foul ball.

Let's get this straight: you don't like her, not because of anything she has done, but because others judge her in a certain way. You do realize this is a bit insane.

I'm interested to see how Hasay does in the race, but agree that others with faster times in the specified events should be given similar or higher level opportunities to compete.

People connect with runners they can identify with. You get guys like AJ Acosta who is currently posting on his Facebook page a photo of him giving the finger to everyone, then it's easy to give the finger back and not like him. With Hasay, I see no discernable personality there except that she hopes to improve and run fast.

Coburn seems to an exhibitionist side to her as does Vescey. Simpson and Rowbury give intelligent and charming interviews. Flanagan seems a little edgy in her interviews, like she wants to take the interviewer out and hammer him into the ground. Cain can be humorous, even goofy. Montano ran 800 meters while eight months pregnant. Carrie Tollefson and Katie McGregor seemed like the type to hang around the beer tent after a road race and let loose a little. All these are human qualities. We don't have to agree with them but at least those qualities exist.

Hasay has been on this gilded path and if there isn't universal love bestowed upon her, then your a hater.

I often like your posts (making me one of the few on this board), but you've gone off the rails here. Talking about similar or greater opportunities is nonsense. Diamond League events do not rest on some egalitarian principle: many things matter, including the country from which one hails, one's coach, what other athletes from the same training group do they also want to compete, how popular the athlete is (Hasay has 20,000 followers on Twitter, Marielle Hall is not on Twitter), et cetera. Yes, Hasay has advantages that others don't have because Salazar has clout. But this is not an unusual fact of life or an unjust one--it is the norm!
