We have decided to do our predictions a little bit different for Berling this year. We'll have an ongoing discussion on the mesageboard between LRC regular contributors Robert Johnson, Jonathan Gault and Weldon Johnson as they make their predictions. You, the fans, can chime in as well. We'll try to get a few posts in tonight (Thursday is poker night for Weldon so he can't post for at least 4 hours) and then some more tomorrow.

Because the marathon is run so much less frequently than other races, it is hard to know when one bad race will spiral into the end of one's competitive career.

I would agree with Kimetto's Chicago CR being as impressive as the WR. But that was almost a whole year ago. I don't think a bad race at Boston means he is "done" as Letsrunners like to say, but he hasn't exactly had a lot of reason to think he is ready to duplicate 2013 other than him saying he is ready to roll.

That's why I'm picking him to win but not get the WR.

Men: winner in 2:03:54...top 3 under 2:04:30

Women: winner in 2:19:48...Flanagan 3rd 2:21:17...top 4 under 2:23:00

If the pace is steady:

Kimetto 1st, Kebede 2nd, Mutai 3rd. This scenario, the winning time is between 2:03low and 2:03high. WR in danger.

If the pace is too quick and it turns tactical:

Kebede 1st, Mutai 2nd, Kimetto 3rd. This scenario, winning time is 2:06.

OK. Here's my final women's prediction.

I don't think shalane gets the record. I'm intrigued enough to stay up and watch.

This race will be different than any other recent Berlin for the women as you'll have male pacers for 20. Totally different running than any of these people have done.

Who knows maybe shalane has done that with some of the men in her group.

Tsegaye for the win 2:19:45. Shalane 2:21.

World record is in danger, they split 1:01:45 halfway. 1:01:37 second half and there is a new WR
