Jacob Kiplimo breaks the half marathon world record in Lisbon for the second time. 57:31 in 2021. And now 57:20 on Sunday morning.

Kiplimo was extra excited in his celebrations given World Athletics did not ratify his 56:42 in Barcelona last year.

American Nathan Martin surges from way back to win the LA Marathon in 2:11:17 Approaching the finish line, Kenya's Michael Kimani Kamau was way ahead, but Martin had a monster kick to come back and finish .01 ahead. Unfortunately, this came after Kamau was lead slightly off course at mile 26. Kenya's Priscah Cherono won the women's race in 2:25:19 at 45-years-old. Kellyn Taylor was runner-up in 2:27:36.

Lagat, an Iowa State alum who trains in Flagstaff with Dark Sky Distance, is appealing to CAS and hoping to have his provisional suspension lifted so he can compete for Kenya at World Indoors from March 20-22.

USATF Half Update

USATF shares update on Half Marathon Championships drama

USATF said it considered naming Jess McClain, Emma Grace Hurley, and Ednah Kurgat to the Worlds team but has "serious concerns" about the long-term precedent it would set by ignoring its selection procedures. It has sent an alternate proposal to World Athletics but said the proposal is contingent on a vote by the World Athletics Council on March 18-19.

The Grand Slam Track bankruptcy just heated up. A new filing claims Bill Ackman's Winners Alliance wasn't just backing the league but was effectively acting as GST's de facto CFO, and is "one of, if not the, primary reason the Debtor has failed." The creditors committee is asking a judge to reject the plan outright, which would have seen athletes paid 85% of what they are owed while other vendors received just 1.5%. Winners Alliance told The Athletic the claims are "an invention with no basis in the record."

Why things went haywire in Atlanta

LRC The 13-minute crisis: How a struck officer led to the wrong turn at the US Half Marathon Championships

We now why there was chaos on the streets in Atlanta on Sunday. Just five minutes before the first runners came by, a police officer was struck by a vehicle a block away from the intersection in which athletes made the wrong turn. Atlanta TC said that caused other officers to leave their posts to attend to him -- and as a result, cones which were meant to direct runners straight were never laid out so that emergency vehicles could come through. Thankfully, the officer is ok and the Atlanta Track Club is going to pay out $39,500 in extra prize money to make the impacted racers whole.

LRC Chaos at 2026 USATF Half Marathon Championships as top 4 women run off course during final mile

Chaos took place at the US Half champs in Atlanta this morning as the top 3 women - who were well clear of the field and on their way to qualifying for the World Champms - were led off course by the lead vehicle. Molly Born looked visibly confused, breaking the tape and finishing first in 69:43 after Jess McClain, Edna Kurgat and Emma Hurley were taken way off course and ended up finishing 9th, 12th and 13th respectively. Wesley Kiptoo won the men's race in 61:15 over Hillary Bor (61:30), Ahmed Muhumed (61:51) and Charles Hicks (62:10).

Talking about setting the indoor WR, her coach, Trevor Painter, says organizers wanted the pacing lights set at the indoor WR, but Painter and Hodgkinson had them set for 1:53.8 because they "knew what was possible from the training stats" and wanted her to have something to chase after the pacer dropped out.
Irish outdoor 800m record holder Cian McPhillips indoor season cut short due to a dental issue He was supposed to race the Millrose Games 800m, but missed it due to a dental procedure. He has since recovered, but decided not to chase a qualifying mark for World Indoors.

No finishers at the 2026 Barkley Marathons Cold and rainy weather saw no one finish the notoriously difficult 100+ mile ultra for the second consecutive year. One of this year's racers included 2011 world mountain running champ Max King. He was one of only four runners to successfully start the third of five laps. No one hit the time cutoff to start a fourth.
World XC champ Agnes Ngetich and John Korir win Sirikwa Classic XC race in Eldoret, Kenya Ngetich dominated the race by over a minute in a field that include world XC silver medalist Joy Cheptoyek (4th place). Korir outkicked Amos Kiprotich by 2 seconds in a race that included 2023 world 10,000m silver medalist Daniel Ebenyo (5th place).
MB: Molly Seidel finished 4th at Black Canyon 100k, gets ticket to Western States The winner was Jen Lichter in 7:47 as Seidel was 28 minutes back. Only the top 3 were guaranteed a Western States entry but one of the top 3 already had one.

MB: INSANE... NCAA DIII XC Runner Up BANNED from from all future competition (after local community rose up and gave him $6000 so he wouldn't have to drop out of college)

The NCAA has done a lot of stupid things over the years but this has to to appear near the top of the list. They have stripped all remaining eligibility for NCAA D3 XC runner-up (and 2:12 marathoner) Mohammed Bati, who works a full-time job 5 days a week at an assisted living facility from 11 pm to 7 am while attending school and running track/XC. His sin? The local community came together and raised $6k for him.

Art and Linda Kranick built a dynasty at Saratoga Springs as they won 3 national titles and 28 NY state federation titles. Many runners RAVED about them. Many also HATED them. His 3:37.27 pre-race pb is also the slowest of any man to win a DL 1500/mile.
