I am confused by what Emma said in her interview post race yesterday in regards to the new standards. How does it throw a wrench in things for her when she already has the standard? Am I missing something here? I thought one only wanted to be top 10 in a Major race if they didn’t have the standard....
It's not a IAAF allowable qualifying event - point to point and drops > 138ft.
From the qualification manual:-
"Marathons
Performances for qualifying purposes may only be achieved on a course measured by an IAAF/AIMS Grade “A” or “B” International Road Race Course Measurer with the measurement certificate established no more than 5 years before the date of the race.
For entry standards the overall decrease in elevation between the start and the finish shall not exceed 1:1000, i.e. 1m per km.
For World Rankings in case of performances achieved on courses with a drop in elevation which exceeds 1:1000 a correction will be made in the result score from which points will be deducted depending of the drop."

Her CIM performance was also outside of the Olympic Qualifying window.

No it wasn’t. It has been open for quite a while now. But I do get that the drop in elevation makes in ineligible. Shoot! Hopefully she gets the standard elsewhere.
Her marathon time was not in the new olympic qualifying marathon window which started January 1st 2019. And I believe CIM isn't an IAAF approved course.
So if the US olympic committee is sticking to what they said and "top three with the new olympic standard will go" then she will have to run another marathon before next winter, and then also run the trials (unless she thinks she will run under 2:29:30 at the atlanta course during the trials)
