Rupp ran very well. It's just Mo ran better. There is no knocking either of them. Mo sped up and the rest of the field maintained.

Galen was just interviewed. He did a great job. He seems to have gotten better at this whole interview thing post-race. It's good to see. He's becoming more "human." I also think it must have something to do with a renewed, more positive focus he has overall. Not to say that he's been negative before, but, as would be expected, he's hard on himself and has lofty goals. It seems he can better see the bigger picture these days and enjoy his successes, even if it's not the win as he had hoped. Strong race by him today.
Yeah it wasn't that bad. It's amazing how consistent he is, that 2:06 low is a 'bad' race.
agree, Rupp ran well. he's been extremely consistent and successful at the marathon distance. even today, I see it as a positive step toward his bigger goals. you can't expect someone to hit a homerun at every attempt at a race. today was a solid performance and perhaps having to comprome some of his workouts due to his achilles injury played a mental factor, if not some hit to his fitness. that could certainly have kept him from following some moves. who knows. but all things considered, he still ran well and showed heart by finishing strong and pushing through running alone at the end.
and there are some people saying that it's not a good sign that he got beat by Suguru??? why? Osako has shown that he's truly a beast at this distance (didn't he run 2:07 in his second marathon before this race? and now he's a 2:05 runner in not ideal conditions?) so I don't see how competing with and sometimes losing to a fellow elite runner like him should be disheartening. if anything, it should motivate Galen. Maybe they can even do some workouts together.

Absolutely, Rupp lost 70 seconds over the last 6 miles, so he was still running 4:52-4:55 per mile, it is just that Mo was running on average ~ 4:40 per mile....

I mentioned in another post that if she wants to make it to the Olympic Games in any team...move to Puerto Rico where 2:36 is the standard. She is no where any close to make the US team. She is terribly ignorant and underestimates this distance, especially with her terrible bio-mechanics that makes Emil Zatopek form look great in comparison. Kuddos to her psychologist for pumping her up though.
She is NOT a marathon contender, plain and simple.
So you judge one's potential by one race? Good luck with that.
I’ve been aroun the block since ‘76 bro. Mark my words. She is NOT a marathon contender. You are just a fanatic.

One race? Other than the 5k she ran indoors, none of her results suggest she is a world class runner at any distance. I enjoyed watching her run down everyone in front of her in triathalon. But I vastly overrated her competition. She basically ran 6 minute pace today. There are women who work full time and achieve that.

I realize Bekele's rankings have dropped -- is he now #1 (5K), #1 (10K), #4 or #5 (M) ?
And Mo's have bettered -- but not sure what they are? But doubt his M ranking is down to single digits yet?
I love Gwen. I love triathlons. I love her Youtube channel. I want to see her succeed.
But today she lost to American women Kate Landau and Marci Klimek. No disrespect to those two, but that's a bad day at the office for Gwen.

What race is tomorrow?
Props to Joan Samuelson (3:12:13) for 274th place among women.

You realize, of course, she has a faster 10k pb than Jordan Hasay, who is arguably the best women's American marathoner right now and beat Sara Hall in a 10 miler previously.
Rupp ran great. Just didn't quite have it for the last 5 miles. (Maybe due to training disruption from Achilles issue.)
Also ran very smart, staying efficient, tucking in, while guys all around were surging and weaving stupidly.
And then strategically dropping off when he couldn't hold the pace with 5K to go (or wherever it was), which allowed him to pick off the crashing Kirui.
On the whole, he did great. He's still absolutely set up to break 2:05 sometime in the next year or two.
As usual, the mockery of him here is juvenile, obnoxious, and stupid. What else is new.
The guy who impressed me the most (aside from Mo, obviously) is Osako. Wow, what a tough performance.
To hang on to crack that record that way, after falling well behind pace pretty late in the race, is impressive as hell.
The Japanese now have, what, maybe 8 or 10 guys in the 2:06 to 2:09 area? More, even?
We have ONE guy below 2:12. Amazing. Meb could un-retire, roll out of bed, train for a couple months, and be America's #2 at age 42.
Unless Ritz can be healthy enough to actually finish a 'thon anytime soon, we have ONE guy. It's beyond pathetic.
I still hold out a little hope for a couple of the younger guys, like Derrick, maybe, but this is just sad.
Maybe True or Korir will decide to move up and fill the void. Those guys could shift their training for 6 months and beat everyone else we've got with their eyes closed.
And what the hell happened to Puskedra? Is there a long string of injuries there, or did he just not have the heart to keep training? He looked like the real deal in his Chicago race, but that's 3 freaking years ago.
What happened to Estrada?
What an embarrassment. When the guy who gets the most attention is a kid who's literally unable to comprehend the concept of *pace,* you might as well just retire your marathon 'program.'
He ran a 2:06. Just wasn’t his day. I think he could of paced himself better than those pacers.
How many of you guys that criticizing have ever ran a marathon? Everyone has an off marathon if you have been marathoning for awhile. Comes with the territory. If you have run less than 3 marathons you most likely have not had one. If your off day is a 2:06 you should not feel bad.
On a side note, what happened to Kipyego? He totally fell off the pace after the half, and could have easily dropped out of top 20 if not for poor splits by Yuki and McCandless as well.
No. We judge it by the entire year, which has gone straight downhill since her 5k debut. You are aware that she was dropped early in both Pittsburgh and Atlanta by second tier runners?

Rupp must be one of those albino Kenyans.

To this end, I have a friend (girl) who runs a 17min 5K and a 2:42 marathon while working a full time job and with 3 kids under 10 years old
I haven't read any posts in the thread. I watched it on NBCSports Gold.
I can honestly say that it was the worst commentating I have ever heard.
I know more about the one guy's OWN training and racing than I do of the race.
And all the other guy could focus on was how HORRIBLE the weather was- not QUITE as bad as Boston.

She finished one second in front of her. Congrats Sara, but to the dumbos on here, that's not BEATING anyone, it's finishing in front of them...by 1 second over a 52 plus minute race. Do try to keep things in perspective.
