Let’s get real, if Djokovic had screamed at and berated the female umpire during yesterday’s final, who would we be calling sexist today? Not the umpire.
If the feminist fight is now about securing a woman’s right to verbally abuse officials without penalty, count me out. I’d rather be held to higher standards, not lower.
You don't get it.
Read Billie Jean King's tweet and get back to us, honey.
Calling someone “honey” in the context you are using it is considered sexist. Fighting sexism with sexism. Clever.
But to address your comment, I read her tweet and completely disagree with it, beginning with the assertion that even though coaching during a match is prohibited by the rules, it shouldn’t be, thus umpires need to ignore it. Bad logic. You want the rule changed, then change it, don’t just ignore it.
Secondly, there is standing up for oneself, and then there is crossing a line. Serena lost her cool, plain and simple, and at a very bad time. Demanding the umpire apologize to her in front everyone? A baseball player would be hitting the showers for that comment.
Regarding BLK’s “passionate v hysterical” comments... Throughout her career, Serena has been called nothing but passionate for pumping her fist and yelling “come on” during her matches. It’s been one of her main attributes. In this instance, she lost her temper, but I don’t recall anyone referring to her conduct as “hysterical.” That’s just BJK adding to the hyperbole.
