I personally believe every sprinter in the 1988 Olympics final men and womens 100 meters final was completely dirty. The whole field in both races. They were on everything imaginable. Every last one of them! Poor Ben Johnson was just the dumb one that got caught. Everytime one of them who got caught from that era would say something like," my drink was spiked" or "an act of sabotage has been done". Ben Johnson was the only one that said," yeah I did it".
We can never truly know, only guess at who's on what. As long as the athletes don't get flagged down mid race I for one will still enjoy it irrespective of later finding out people are on stuff.
I feel sorry for the Marion Jones, Ben Johnson's and Lance Armstrong's who got scapegoated by ruling bodies. Dumping it all on them. They become depicted as pure evil while the many athletes getting away with it walk around like the sun shines out of the proverbial.
Some secret positive p.e.d. test results were leaked from 1980-something and other secret positive p.e.d. test results were not leaked. Over the past seventy-five years, 100m through 800m world records have only slightly improved while 1500m to Marathon world records have improved significantly over the past 75 years but you want us to believe sprinters are dirty and 1500m to Marathoners are clean?
He admitted other banned substances while denying Winstrol. The spiked sample theory is not spiking the drink which still requires processing into metabolites by the body, but rather, direct spiking of the urine sample. This is supported by the unexplained presence of raw drug molecules in the sample which should not be the result in a urine sample for a user of the drug.

I am of the opinion that the only clean athlete in any of the 1988 100M finals was Evelyn Ashford.
The spiked drink thing is exactly what Johnson said.

What? Among busted dopers, Johnson is as bad as it gets:
Disgraced former sprinter Ben Johnson, who had his 100m gold and world record at the 1988 Olympics stripped after testing positive for steroids, has claimed a book due in September will provide new evidence that he was a vict...

I hope you guys are never on a jury. Evidence be damned with the cynics on this board.
I don't think you get it. On a jury, you are actually affecting someone's fate, so the standards for conviction are much, much higher. I think that most people, even if they BELIEVE that the accused is probably guilty, will not vote for conviction if the evidence is lacking.
Speculating about whether sprinters of the '80s were doping is an entirely different matter. There are no consequences for them if posters on a message-board convict them. And it is fairly well-established that they WERE dirty. I mean, there IS evidence - maybe not in the preferred form of publically available test results, but evidence nonetheless.
You can't go through life only believing things that have been legally proven. Especially when things are obvious. For example, I have no hard evidence that Miguel Indurain was doped, but it would be downright silly to presume that therefore he must be innocent.

You know, having read and watched a great deal about that race, I actually believe that Ben Johnson was sabotaged in the 1988 Olympic final. I also believe he was 100% guilty of steroid and growth hormone use. His coach’s book Speed Trap, which lays out chapter and verse concerning Ben Johnson’s drug program which began in 1981, makes that abundantly clear. So, how can both be true?
Here’s how. Johnson tested positive for a drug his coach insists he hadn’t taken in a long time, and should have been well clear of his system. Also, the metabolites in his urine suggested application within hours or a day or two of the race. Maybe others here understand the chemistry better. Anyway Ben Johnson is no genius, but even he knew better than to dose himself hours or a day or two before the race. So did his doctor.
Finally, the mysterious visitor to the testing area, Andre Jackson, was absolutely sent there by Carl Lewis. The documentary 9.79 makes that clear. Andre Jackson has never confessed to spiking Ben Johnson’s drink, but his answers are ambiguous and elliptical at best.
So Johnson was guilty, and was also set up. If true, it is probably one of the worst scandals in the history of sport. Not enough people know about it. Everyone should watch that documentary. It really is great.
