It was a dope run, but he's so frail and always injured.

Man that would be so awesome for sport, and just for him in general.. I don't think he's ran an ultra since early 2015ish..
He's a forever legend in sport, just hope he can string together a health streak. Get it!

His achilles will be fried by next week. :(
i would be happy for him, probably the most iconic and famous ultra runner with kilian
Let's hope he's doing more strength work now. Stress fracture, IT Band issues, and then insertional achilles injury. Hopefully he's learned by now that what he's doing isn't helping his longevity.
I thought he figured out that his endless running injuries were due to running high mileage, then he gets healthy again and goes for a 37 mile run? Can the guy really not enjoy doing a 10 miler? Is an hour long run just not enjoyable?

You thought wrong.
This is also the same guy who has said "...what I found is that my body could handle 150 mile weeks". Ummmmm, obviously it COULDN'T, which is why it broke down.
Hopefully that means he is going to run Leadville. Otherwise, so what running fast in practice... training hero.
38 miles 5000+ vertical gain...all that biking seems to keep him fit enough
It seems to be a mental barrier for him. He ran his first marathon at age 12 and has since defined his life through ultra running. He certainly needs to change his mindset and find self-worth elsewhere. He can be among the best in the world at ultra distances. At shorter races he would merely be a Joe Schmo.
In an interview last year he did say that, “I can’t help feeling like what I do is unimportant,” he says. “There are people in the world who have noble jobs and jobs that are for other people and not just for themselves. I feel like being a sponsored athlete is such a ridiculous life to lead. It’s like, what are you doing for people? Nothing.”
And yet he continues to run ultras. I think it is his running and his fans that give him some sense of "giving back" and contribute to society by serving as a role model.

That's not possible. I read in Born To Run that "ultrarunners never get injured or burned out".
My guess. wrote:

Considering the guy is an endurance animal on the bike, rock climbs a ton, does alpine climbing (including mixed & ice, long link-ups of multiple peaks), is a ski mountaineer racer, and travels international to do stuff like this, I think he's doing alright.
I wonder if it's some of the ultra running fan-boys out there who need to find someone else to obsess over. He posts a run on his Strava and people freak about about him being "back" and ask him about his ultra-racing plans, etc. He posts a really bad-ass ride or other adventure and it's crickets, comparatively.
Here's hoping the best for the guy and his health--I'm sure he'd love to be in top running shape and health again. But, all this being said, Anton K. is a much more accomplished, interesting, and well-rounded mountain athlete now than if all he was doing was running 100 mile races.
I like following the guy's adventures and he's pretty grounded/mellow/zen in his approach to life from what he shares online.
You jackweeds are probably the same ones blasting him when he used to post on here about his 200 mile weeks. Of course he went on to run some great ultra races and you shut up for a while.
What is wrong with just liking to run a lot?
Just heard from an inside source here in in Boulder that after this run Anton is injured again (now: a day or two later). I can't confirm this 100%, but I'm would not surprised if this rumor is true. I don't want to spread false information though so this is just a rumor. ..please keep that in mind.
For the record, Krupicka threw down some tough race performances in the past 10 years. He came within 92 seconds of me at the 2013 Speedgoat 50km (a race that he did beat Max King in that year). Pretty impressive for someone who never broke 2:30 for the marathon or 15:00 for 5km (that I know of). I think that race (as well as his 2nd at Western and wins at Leadville )were probably some of his best performances ever. As much as he loves the mountains/climbing and technical "sky running " stuff I think ironically his best type of races were the runnable 100-mile trails like Leadville and Western. He can powerhike quite well up steep pitches and run steep downhill on technical trails (as well as smooth trails) very quickly though.
Last time I saw him almost a year ago he was doing a 30 + mile mountain run on the peaks around Boulder. I was doing a 10-12 mile run/workout (total) on Green Mountain. We chatted a bit on the way down about PEDs in the sport (both for mountain-ultras as well as road marathons) and what is naturally possible for the human body. We also talked about how the sport of "MUT" has changed with social media/sponsorships and prize money/travel perks etc. It was a interesting conversation/debate and it got quite heated. We definitely have 180 degree different views on the sport on a lot of fronts.
Spreading rumors about someones health? Not cool man.. hope you get smoked at Speedgoat 50K this weekend

No, the dude can do fast training runs.
He can't kick ass in a 100 mile race because he's always injured from too much or too hard training.
Did Sage just imply that Anton gets hurt often because he dopes?? Hmmm. Interesting.
No I did not. I think he is 100% clean actually (and I don't think that about all top ultra-trail-mountain runners). If anything he gets hurt and "overtrains" because he is clean. Although lets face it: distance running is a tough, fickle sport and injuries happen when one pushes their limits. There are all sorts of genetic variables there at play as well as periodization of training that can influence this of course. I respect those that push their limits and train hard though. It's a very tough balance. Running 140 + miles a week at altitude on trails...over 30,000' + of climbing is putting in 20-30+ hours of training a week. That is really freaking hard. I can barely handle 120mpw and 20k of climbing. What we mainly disagreed on (at the time) is how he thinks a lot of top road marathoners are doped to the gills, but then he thinks mountain-ultra-trail running is super clean. Now obviously there are likely a lot more dopers in road and track than on the trails, but there is plenty of financial incentive to dope as a pro mountain-ultra-trail runner nowadays. We also disagree on aspects of athlete business-marketing and other fluff...but I digress. As far as his injury status goes: he rode his bike the past few days after this run (according to Strava). I feel sorry for all runners that get hurt...I wouldn't wish that on anybody. Health is wealth.
