You’re a dbag. It’s a wedding announcement. The Times happens to publish this cheesier stuff every week. It’s a regular paper. Well to-do east coast families think it’s a big deal. As for her film, I’d like to see you complete a film worthy of inclusion in festivals and distribution. And one that is referenced by Paul Thomas Anderson as one of the better things he had seen.

I’ve never read a wedding announcement where 99% of the story is about one spouse. Seriously , she could have married a starfish and the NYT probably wouldn’t have said much less about him . “ Mr . Starfish first noticed Alexi when she was vacationing in Hawaii and he was laying on the bottom of the sea encrusted with barnacles.”
Lol indeed, the title doesn't even have the groom's name in it.
Is this something new? The ‘editors’ revise or water down an offensive post instead of banning the writer?
This could work in my favor.
Saw the article earlier and knew it would trigger lrc posters once the crawled out of mom's basement. You turkeys made my day. So sensitive. It's so easy to laugh at those who take issue over a wedding article.

She definitely knows someone at the NYT. The video series and now this wedding column? I’m just curious who her contact is. Her networking skills far exceed her running skills, but good on her.
I had the same thought. She must have a great PR person to get so much press while doing so little in a sport no one cares about. It's all inoffensive, but the way she presents herself as an inspirational character rubs me the wrong way.
She reminds me of "Millenial Dan Nainan", a 50 something guy who shows up in dozens of articles because he knows how to get press--

Man, this really caught me funny. Very true, and well done.

You conservatives really do look for stuff to be "triggered" by. This piece appeared in the Weddings section and there are long stories about newlywed couples under the "Vows" subheading literally every week in the NYT. And the article referred to her as "a darling," not "the darling," of the Games. Though I suppose that's debatable, again it's a Wedding story in a feel-good, personal interest section of the NYT and hardly worthy of outrage (nor I imagine does the NYT fact-check these kinds of stories with the rigor of the news section).
By the way, the New York Times is an international treasure. There is no other newspaper in the world that has its range or depth of coverage. Just because you and your fellow nuts call something "fake" enough times doesn't make it true!
Hahahaha!!!! "International treasure"...
Pretty sure these weekly wedding articles in the NYT are paid for. There were a couple of product mentions (like the 3D wedding cake topper) which leads me to believe she wrangled a deal through her connections with the Times and her sponsors. Again, an example of her marketing skills and why companies give her money. You don't have to be the fastest runner to get the most money.

She will do literally anything for attention. She reminds me of Suzy Favor.

weird. i clicked on the link and it took me to the wedding section of the nytimes? how is that proof the ny times is a rag if they cover weddings that are submitted to the paper?
These are all basically self-written (they say what they want to and have a NYT writer douche it up). So basically the entire article is what Alexi thinks about herself. It takes a lot of narcissism to even pay the NYT for the wedding announcement in the first place, and the article just shows what we know that she loves herself. On another note what team was she the worst on? Because if she is talking about the national title Oregon team shes an idiot.
The better question is, without thinking about her awful personality, is Pappas even attractive? I can't really figure it out, think she was when she was running, but she is obviously not in any kind of shape and is somewhat blobby for an Olympic runner. Still, do not know how she pulled it off (even for the greek team) so kudos to her.

This is about right, the "Vows" section is a bit of a joke. What is interesting is that these blurbs are normally buried in the Styles section of the print edition, generally garbage for women, but this one appeared in the "Top Stories" section of the on-line/mobile edition. My guess is that Pappas hired a NY-based publicist with a great NYT contact. As a wedding announcement, these two fit the NYT mold perfectly, but there is no other explanation for how all her short films and other random Pappas coverage has ended up on the Times web site over the years.
I think her claim is she was worst on the Dartmouth team (false) and then became an Olympian (misleading).
I heard Alexi Pappas was Greek. Will she get her American citizenship now =P
Ice-T had a lot of great insights about the running industry. He once said: "don't hate the player, hate the game."
one is an olympian and both have made actual movies that people went to see and liked.
AP is a strange bird and has made a space for herself that no one knew existed.
She deserves the extra coverage, even if she isn't going to win any medals.
Succeeding in two worlds is very, very unusual and that story attracts journalists.

Amazing how bitter people here can be. It looks like a nice ceremony. Per instagram it looks like Deena Kastor, Abbey D'Agostino, Mary Cain, and Ian Dobson were all there to celebrate with her - "real runners" by anyone's standards. People here get so worked up over truly meaningless things.
Pappas has carved out a career for herself, partially through running, which is a lot more than 99% of posters here can say, and she ran the Olympic 10k in 31 and change which was over a minute faster than Marielle Hall did at the same race. The outrage certainly is confounding.
