Um ... ever heard of Genevieve Lacaze?
Yes... and she went to Florida for college (aka the US).

She could well get overtrained and ruined in the US.
Of course, she should not come to the U.S. because she will get overtrained and ruined, notwithstanding the fact that the U.S. has won nearly 1/3rd of the medals in global competitions.
I take it if this figure is correct, you are counting 400mH and shorter?
No way that holds for 800m-marathon.

It does for nations who are subject to random OOC blood testing.

Um, ever hear of Georgie Clarke?
I never said she couldn't get overtrained in Australia too.

Perhaps because the US has the biggest talent pool in the world.
The USA has all that Grade A beef, and turns it into hamburger.

You talking about tainted steak?

Off the top of my head, here are the distance runners most commonly making Global teams over the last few years from Aus:
Ryan Gregson - Not NCAA
Luke Matthews - Not NCAA
Jo Deng - Not NCAA
Jeff Risely - Not NCAA
Alex Rowe - Not NCAA
Peter Bol - Not NCAA
Stuart McSweyn - Not NCAA
Ben St Lawrence - Not NCAA
Collis Birmingham - Not NCAA
Brett Robinson - Not NCAA
Pat Tiernan - NCAA
Dave McNeill - NCAA
Jordie Williamsz - NCAA
Morgan McDonald - NCAA
Brit McGowan - Not NCAA
Selma Kajan - Not NCAA
Georgie Griffiths - Not NCAA
Maddie Hills - Not NCAA
Vic Mitchell - Not NCAA
Eloise Wellings - Not NCAA
Celia Sullohern - Not NCAA
Linden Hall - NCAA
Zoe Buckman - NCAA
Gen Lacaze - NCAA
I'm not going to analyse this too deeply (how many people stay/go to NCAA, how good they were when they went, how much they improved post college) but it shows that the NCAA isn't the only way for an Australian to be good. Small seems to have a good setup at the moment that's working for her, and I'm sure she has a support network that will help her make the best decision not just for her running, but future in general.
No one is saying she needs to go to the ncaa, seems like her current setup is working why not stick with it. However, the insinuation that she would be ruined by the ncaa is laughable considering the volume of successful athletes that came through the ncaa
Someone just said that it appeared Australia doesn't have many pathways. I was pointing out that they must have some pathways, otherwise all of their athletes would be NCAA.

Nope, I am talking about grinding down talent.
all of this is mute as the word is she signed with nike after running 2:01 at 15 last year.

Australia doesn’t have many pathways - obviously that doesn’t mean ncaa is the only way or that everyone has done it/should do it, but Australia simply doesn’t have systems where large numbers of young talented people get great coaching, facilities and a degree. There also isn’t much competition when you are a standout compared to a country with over 10x as many people. showing the other athletes who didn’t train in the USA isnt particularly helpful as saying what they didn’t do doesn’t show what they did take. There are options but like I said many work full time and train on the side and unless they went with the AIS would have completed their degree if any also alone and without $. Also doesn’t show how many stopped doing sport and dropped out due to lack of pathway and we never hear of.
Anyway all moot as I had forgotten she’s with Nike.

Young developer perhaps, but her best distance will be longer distances, with all her talent she has no future in 800m with men. 1500m will be her event.
She's a terrible 1500m runner, doesn't even put in the slightest effort when the race is up for grabs.
NCAA is a great development system for Australians, with excellent education and racing opportunities.
The downside is most good young metropolitan based Australians, risk leaving perfect all year around training weather, excellent coaches and strong squads.
It's nice to have the option either way.
Vic Mitchell was an NCAA Champion while at Butler under Joe Franklin
i hope shes not just another teen phenom, who gets overtrained, and burnt out like georgie clarke was.some teen phenoms make it,like alyson felix or sally pearson, but usually they go the way of georgie clarke, mary cain,or high jumper eleanor patterson.now you see them.........now you dont.......i only hope shes not out of the sport,at age 20.

Yep, w/o testicles there is no future for her in the 800.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
