42 push-ups seems much harder than 12:30 for 1.5 mile. I have many non-runner friends who could run 12:30 for 1.5 mile, but few of them would be able to do 42 proper push-ups non-stop.

Is it really necessary for the highly technical US Govt to have regular employees run that fast? I don't think so. The USMC is different with soldiers dependent on extreme fitness and expert unarmed fighting skills.
I wish that I had saved my and my parents' money and joined the Air Force or Coast Guard. It seems like they have a pretty sweet deal. Four years of college paid for, plus a living stipend, plus job experience and the chance to save money for four years. Instead I went to university and graduated in the middle of the recession.
Thank you for the response. I see many things on both sides and I think many veterans now would agree with me. As a veteran, I am pro Gay. I think you will meet many vets who agree with this. I met Army snipers who won Purple Hearts who were gay and many in his unit knew this, but they were not going to kick him out. In matter of fact, they all were good friends. If he/she can shoot an enemy from a thousand feet away saving the life of a soldier with two kids and a wife then he is on my team. Lol.
I really don't think this is a left or right side. I just think its common sense to boost our military just for National Defense. I remember 9/11 and it affect me a great deal. Like I mentioned before, my family went through a lost under their Communist country. My dad was a refugee. Half of my family was either executed or deported to slave labor camps during and after WWII.
Of all the presidential candidates we had I believe that Bernie Sanders is honest and non corporate nor elitist. I liked him more then anyone else. But he wanted to cut our military 30 percent. That includes intelligence which is vital is stopping countries such as Russia and ISIS. National Security is my number 1 priority, more then anything else, so thus I didn't vote for Sanders, nor Trump, nor Clinton.
Also keep in mind many liberals and many conservatives want a better military. Governor Kasich, for example, wanted gays in the military and Democrat Wesley Clark wants a better military for security reasons.
I doubt that many liberals want a better military.....They are generally anti military, anti cop etc.

From your presumably fiscally conservative viewpoint, how much should we be spending on the military?

Your an idiot... I bet you think the Marine Corps is all special forces also moron. SEAL, SWCC, EOD, DIVER, SARR. To say you don't need a lot of cardio is moronic. You probably could not even qualify for the training pipeline of the schools because cardio yes you need but you also need a heck of a lot of strength. I went through BUD's in 2011 and got through prep and when I got to Coronado all of the distance runners in the class dropped on request and most did not even get out of prep. We did two mile open ocean swims and that was not if the conditions allowed it that was get your a$$ in the water and swim. I can recall one day the surf was nasty 10ft+ obviously everyone pretty much failed the time cut off that day but it was mainly to see who would not chicken out and make it into the line up to even start the swim. Myself and a few other surfers had no issue getting out there and cutting through the big surf but we had at least 10 drop due to fear. To say Sea Bees and Corpsman need cardio is ridiculous you need zero cardio to do those jobs.
Today:
The U.S. Marine Corps will no longer require prospective officers to pass a punishing combat endurance test to graduate from the service’s Infantry Officer Course.
Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller quietly made the shift to standards in November, altering the test from a pass/fail requirement to just one of many exercises measured as part of overall IOC evaluation, the Marine Corps Times first reported on Thursday.
The course is considered among the military’s toughest training programs, with about a quarter of all students failing to complete it, according to the Washington Post. Most of the 30-plus women who have attempted IOC dropped on the first day during the combat endurance test.
http://freebeacon.com/national-security/marine-corps-eases-requirement-inhibited-female-infantry-officers/If Women want that then I guess the USMC will have to let them by. But for Males the USMC will still be the Knights Templar/Monghol Horde/Roman Legion as the Founding Fathers designed back in 1775. The ordinary five Pentagon military branches will remain a citizen's militia per 1775 design.

Billions of dollars are spent on high tech gear and support for each Navy Sailor, Army Soldier, Coast Guard Guardsman, Air Force Airman, and Officers. Why should they have to run and do pullups?
When they invade a country to kill their innocent men, women, and children, all military scum had better be able to run away from their crimes like the cowards they are.....hence the cardio requirements.

Not at all. Since the US military defeat in Vietnam, the Americans always deploy plenty of limos and 757 airliners to transport their militants back home in comfort.
Combat Endurance Test only became part of the IOC pipeline in 2012, unless marines weren't fit to lead before that then this isn't lowering standards. It's getting rid of a test they found not useful in selecting leaders.

They have to run to the plane, don’t they? During the flight back, they can come up with bs excuses to rape the American people through ptsd disability.

Disgusting sexism at play here. The required times should be exactly the same for males and females across all the armed forces.
In the field of combat are the enemy going to give woman a head start because they're woman?!!
I agree they should require the same times.
But giving them a head start is like making them run different distances. Maybe men have 15 minutes to run 1.5 miles, and women to run 1.3 miles?
A "head start?"
What are they: retreating?
Are those the times they have to swim?
Makes me nervous...I'm sure the Russians and Chinese are not obsessed with political correctness and gender diversity in THEIR military...
This whole leftist/liberal nonsense is going to bury us.
