Miles, I think you are missing the point...Rob said that he did not lose the Conference meet on purpose. The guys that raced ran their hardest. Two of those guys were NCAA All-Americans.
1. Your point disrespects your BYU Cougars for their great run at the Conference Championships.
2. I think Rob's AD is plenty happy with the success that he's had there at Portland.
Obviously BYU did not choke, they finished 3rd in the NCAA and weren't going to beat NAU regardless. However, I think with Rory's post-race interviews at Pre-Nats and with how dominant they were at Dellinger, Pre-nats, and Conference they might have been better served by saving those efforts for the NCAA Championships.
All in all, I don't think there was some big conspiracy in what Portland did this season. Rob had to make a decision on what to do with guys who weren't 100% healthy or who were running a LONG season on short training. The NCAA obviously places an order of importance of the championship meets on NCAA Nationals, NCAA Regionals, and NCAA Conference, just by the order that they fall into during the season. In other sports the NCAA pays for teams that 'qualify' for Regionals; we just happen to be in a sport where it's an automatic qualification to the regional championships.
Great job to both Portland and BYU, from Miles' post it seems that both coaches are probably happy with how their seasons ended; BYU as Conference Champions and 3rd place NCAA and Portland as Regional Champions and NCAA runner-ups.
