I really want to get a Fenix 5. I've been eyeing the line since it came out. It has more than I need in a running watch, but it has some things I want.
Talk me into going with my gut and splurging.

If you don't mind the extra weight go for it. But might want to wait and see the Forerunner 645 first.
Save the money buy the 935. Exact same watch in plastic form instead of the bulky heavy metal 5x
You could always buy my year old Forerunner 735xt so I can buy a new watch?
Price?
I haven't done a full dive into the pros and cons, but I'd have to think that now that the 3rd Apple watch is out with LTE it's going to be a serious contender to Garmin.
Sheet it is the same watch. Thanks!

Depends a lot of the metrics aren't available or nearly as accurate and rely on 3rd party apps.
The pace seems to be off, a runner in our group will show a faster pace vs others with Garmin but hey ill take that lol
Not to be a jerk, but save your money and get a Forerunner 230/235 instead. If it's good enough for Tirunesh Dibaba, it will probably work for you. I love mine (230).
I have the 235 and am raging every time I wear it on the treadmill because it gives me terrible pace readings. The 935 has the running dynamics pod and I can get the regular foot pod for it. I'll probably get that next week.
I run on a treadmill a lot and my 235 gives really bad data because my arm swing is weird.
Treadmills suck.

That's going to be my plan for this winter until the next release of the Forerunner 935 comes out. I've done a few runs with the AW3 and it's not too bad. I wouldn't trust it for anything above 4 hours, however. I can export the data with RunGap to Garmin or Strava (a few bucks). That's the only downside - freeing it from Apple's locked health wall. It won't export step data, though.
The 735xt is going unused until the marathon this weekend and then will probably sit until my next marathon whenever that is.

Doesn't the treadmill already tell you distance and pace? Why do you need a watch?

Get yourself a Forerunner 10 for $30.
If it's good enough for Genzebe Dibaba, it's good enough for you!

Interesting. And are footpods pretty accurate?

Not even close to being accurate unless you are only talking about "running" specific functionality... otherwise the fenix offers a lot more then the 935 does.

You are wrong. Look at the review, scroll down for the comparison chart. They are almost the same exact watch.
