the fastest 3000m steeplechase ever run is 7:53.17 by Brahim Boulami of Morroco in 2002. During that race he went through 2k in 5:17.44, so indeed, 5:17 is on WR pace.
He was the greatest male steeplechaser ever.

2:51 for the third 1k. See we keep ratcheting it down!
8:41 at 3k, they ran 2:51 for kilometer, there on 14:28 pace,

jager has identical 3000m times as brahim and shaheed. so theoretically jager should be able to run 7:53-55
But he always hangs back wayyy too much.
We got an upset in the making???
4k in 11:37, 2:56 that kilometer, it slowed down to 14:31 pace
Only Obiri and Kipkurui left, who has a 14L51 pb, so she is looking to smash that

Obiri holds on. When I posted, Obiri was behind when starting the 2nd to last lap. A good race!
14:25, Obiri wins as expected, but wow, Kipkirui, droped her PB down from 14:51 to 14:27, that's a 24 second drop. She is listed as being born in 1994, making her 23 years old.

Also McColgan massively PB'd to 14.48 (from 15'01)... BOOM
It's kinda crazy to think that Ayana's 5k split in the 10k at worlds was still faster than what Obiri ran today with pacers and honest effort...
Another interesting thing I noticed is that there were two junior champs in that race that ran pretty well for their age. Letesenbet Gidey ran 14:42, has a PB of 14:33, and she is 19. Lilian Rengeruk ran 14:41, has a PB of 14:36, and she is 20. Imagine if they were in the NCAA... Their PBs are nearly a minute faster than what the winning time was for the Womens 5k NCAA final.
they're probably older (see yesterday's QOTD)still super impressive PBs
Uh well thenn wrote:

Anyone know where Allyson Felix is? Does she make so much from endorsements she doesn't care about the money? Or was she protecting her image since she lost in London?
Fans have go to be annoyed at how few DL races she runs.
Russian athletes showing well out here
Let's go people. I need updates on this steeple as I'm on a plane and can't listen or watch.
Help me out.
Here we go, Hopefully the go sub 8:00
Pacer is off and rolling it appears! Strung out after 1 1/2 laps!
2:40.27 at 1k, off the target pace, right on 8:00 though
Jager and Kipruto leading with less than 4 to go
