New England Cross Country is not golf courses and rainbows like it is in the Midwest bro.

Alright bro, sack the f*** up and realize 81 degrees isn't "oppressively hot" the midwest just had a week straight of 85-95 degree weather and you don't see anyone freaking out. I hope to god its above 80 at nationals and you east coasters will melt.

the weather on the east coast is a lot different than the weather in the midwest. the midwest is usually hotter, and usually has way less humidity. people complaining about the heat when they really mean the humidity (81 isnt hot, but with very high humidity it is). so yea 81 degrees and 85% humidity is a little different than 85-90 with low humidity. that being said, i'm excited to watch IGC and GOC put everyone in the ground at nationals. And before you start talking about team domination in the midwest, there are about 5 divison 1 schools total in that region, so every local stud who can't go local d1 goes d3. east coast has way more d1 schools (20+ in new york alone), so 9:25 guys don't go d3

5? Ok. There's over 10 in Illinois alone, and plenty more throughout the Midwest. Not as many as the East coast, sure, but still plenty to spread around the talent. East coast just isn't as good, deal with it.

Yeah...let's see. What are the best D1 schools? Well, there are some very good schools on the east coast (Syracuse, Georgetown, Iona, Villanova, etc.) and some very good schools on the west coast (Stanford, Oregon, UCLA, Colorado, etc.). In the midwest? Well, there's Wisconsin, when Wisconsin doesn't suck...Michigan, which hasn't been relevant in decades. Notre Dame, which hosts a pretty good meet.

Were the midwest to be more talented than the east or west coast, that would scale to division 1. It really doesn't. In fact, the west coast is generally the worst in D3 (other than the south, but that's universal regardless of division). What that suggests is that where there are more division 1 teams, division 3 teams get less talent. It does not suggest that the midwest is somehow more talented than the east (or west) coast.

Uhhh where are these benches!?! My coach says we have to run the races WITHOUT stoping. I bet he would change his mind if there was benches on the course!!

People forget that SUNY Geneseo was defeated by a still standing national record last year. I think people forget that but it happened.

Midwest + Central = 43 d1

Atlantic + New England + Mideast = 73 d1

It's literally no comparison. There are 30 more d1 options to go to in the Northeast than in the Midwest. So local northeast kids who run 9:25-9:35 can get some scholarship to go to a d1. Those same 9:25-9:35 kids in the Midwest don't have that option. D3 midwest guys are far more talented out of high school than D3 northeast guys

Hard work beats talent when talent beats off...wait that's not right??

Explain to me why we are arguing about regions? Seems to me like there are a few good teams each year from the Midwest and from New England. If you don't count NCC, the regions look pretty similar. Yeah NCC wins a lot and so the Midwest technically has a lot of wins, but I'm still confused about why we want to broaden this?

All of division III xc was defeated. It wasn't a dual meet. Geneseo earned its second place just as NCC earned its first-place record margin.

Pointless comment to call out one program for their best finish in their history.

I think that quick take away from Paul Short is that Hopkins, Amherst, and CNU are definitely overrated (although this surprises nobody). Haverford looked great though and I think Hopkins is still going to be decent, although still not a top 10 team. Also the course was probably only 300 meters long this year so kudos to the race committee for lengthening it from the last few years. I think that top 5 this year will be:

1. NCC

2. SUNY G

3. Wash U

4. Haverford

5. Lacrosse

Does anyone actually know how long the course was this year?

I want to say Hopkins was doing a workout-type effort. Hard to say they would do that considering the race they were in, but their 2-7 gap was 11sec. I find it hard to believe if a team ranked 3rd in the nation (I don't think the committee would be that far off in rankings) racing all out would have a 2-7 gap being that close. But, I really have no idea. They could have been racing all out and just aren't nearly as good as everyone thought they would be
