Now that track is over, it seems like it's time to start this up.
Individually? Seems hard to bet against Darin Lau. Dude killed it at Natties, but IGC is the top returner and 1500 champion. Dhruvil Patel had a killer indoor season and followed it up with a very solid outdoor season. It looks 16 all-americans are returning from xc, so it should be very interesting individually now that LaMere is gone.
Team wise, North Central seems like the obvious favorite. They return three all-americans and certainly have many more guys ready to step up. Behind them, teams like LaCrosse, Eau-Claire, Loras, Williams, MIT and Amherst (and anyone I might be forgetting) will compete for the podium
I'm gonna say Lau takes the victory, and North Central repeats as team champion

What's the status on Amherst? Are there any continuing impacts? I think I saw they where going to get a new coach
-
Amherst is absolutely finished. I hear their administration wants to kill the program.

Mostly what we'd expect, except for that Hopkins is very high up there. No 10k times from these guys, but if their 5ks translate well to cross they could challenge Geneseo for sure. NCC looks pretty much unbeatable, but crazier things have hapenned. Most teams will need to count on their 4th or 5th guys to have good days if they'll want to be in podium contention.
This is also of course all super-preliminary and the actual pecking order will become more clear in October.
Feel free to add if you think your team is relevant too (sorry CMS, but you've got one foot in the grave) -
You're missing many abroad people from both Williams and Amherst. If you're going to make a top 10 prediction, actually put some time into your work or gtfo.
-
Is this the year MIT breaks through? They got a stud up front and seem to have at least 1 impact frosh every year. I could see them taking the big one at Nattys.
-
St. Olaf
Timm, Paul 15:04.84 31:16.21
Ketola, Keith 15:04.85 33:08.65
Lerdall, Thomas 15:08.92
Henschel, Jack 15:09.15
Aarness, Tayler 15:37.96 -
Haverford?
Henry Woods 14:26
Dylan Gearinger 14:33
Ryan Herlihy 14:57
Greg Morgan 14:58 (3:51 1500)
Graham Peet 15:01 (9:19 steeple)
Plus they absolutely smoked hopkins in the distance events at their conference meet. Though they seemed to be tactical races so who knows. -
You are missing notable All-Americans from Eau Claire and North Central. Since Nationals is on an actual XC course this year expect the Midwest to lay rail down once again. Eau Claire should be much higher. I expect them, Wash U, and LAX to finish ahead of Johns Hopkins....count it 4 Midwest teams in the top 5. East coast teams will be DEVASTATED when they find out the course is not only hilly but also a full 8k.

Hilly? That's rich, coming from the Midwest. The east coast actually runs hilly courses. I think a non-negligible reason for the Midwest's success is that nationals has historically been a pancake flat course, where the superior xc fitness of the east coast doesn't really come into play. -
Lol what fitness from the East Coast?
-
There are more d3 schools in New York alone than the entire Midwest, sorry the talent gets spread out more so there aren't "super teams". Cavs in 6!

Pretty sure the post by "Midbest" was sarcastic... -

Midbest was factually correct about Eau Claire and North Central. It's really unclear whether it's sarcasm or boasting. -
the wiac will be throwing ANOTHER giant party this year hosted by reid zanoya. LaMere will be wearing his poop filled shorts from indoor conference 2013 5k that he has yet to clean. Tim Nelson will be continuing to shotgun beers with Dawson Miller, who is now the head coach at WW. All the while, Thorson is painting a picture of those guys shotgunning with zanoya posing nude behind the shotgunning national champions. he makes sure he gets a snapchat of the fun. La Crosse won't be invited again since no one likes them in Wisconsin after more success. Brietbach will be the first ever coach to be fired from multiple teams as he coaches Eau Claire, Parkside, and Marquette all into the ground. Dan Sullivan shows up really late to the party but no one recognizes him since he has been irrelevant for so many years.
