So was this a health/get out of the rat race at a big school move? Was it forced? Was it just strongly suggested with a "buyout" to move on "quietly" type of situation? Or was it just a good old fashioned, "I'm done, and am ready to step away from college coaching personal decision?"
UCLA has been way down on the track the last few years.
His nickname on campus is "NO Medals Maynard".
They have been talking to Johnny Gray for a while and he is the favorite now. A native of Los Angeles is what they want and obviously a huge upgrade to Gray's current situation.
Good. They can have him.
Might be hard to put JG in as I think that he is degree-less.....
Would pulling a former alum and coach from other side of town be an option?

Nothing hurts worse than being slammed by SC alums about USC's 10 T&F medals at 2016 Rio.
Oh gosh. Seriously? Johnny as director? Nice guy, good event coach, GREAT ATHLETE... never directed anything.
Mike Powell? Joanna Hayes? Maurica Carlucci?
Carl Lewis or Bryan Fetzer
The former Maurica Carlucci as in the current Maurica Powell? At Oregon? Married to Andy Powell? Don't think she's going to UCLA.
I'd like to see former CU Buff Nelson or former Stanford Cardinal Carlucci take the post at UCLA T&F.
Allen Johnson

Does Nelson have any coaching experience? I'm assuming he's a volunteer assistant at CU?

No. Nelson is married to doper Larry Wade
And they got a great female throwing recruit.... hope the new director keeps Frazier- else the incoming frost may look for a release. I know the kids are supposed to pick a school not a coach but let's be real.
Good luck to whoever gets the UCLA job...gonna suck having to wear unproven Under Armour specialty track shoes next year in competition
Caryl Glibert?
