Time's almost up for this track season. Are any high schoolers this year going to break 4 like the past two years? Who? Where? Are any sub4 attempts currently lined up?

This might be the most talented crop EVER... I can think of at least 5 guys who can, and a few more who have a shot.
Sam Worley: 1:48.25 / 4:00.61 mile (56 last lap) / 8:51.4 3200/ NXN runner-up
Reed Brown: 1:53.41 / 4:03.23 mile (57 last lap) and has a 4:02 with a 55.7 last lap / 8:50.2 3200 / FLXC champ
Cooper Teare: 1:54.53 / 4:00.16 mile / 8:41.4 3200
Casey Clinger: 1:52.92 / 4:05.9 mile (last year) / 8:44.7 3200 / NXN champ
D.J. Principe: 4:00.97 indoor mile / 8:47 2 mile
Those five can smash it in the right race. A few other names might be Brandon McGorty (1:48 / 4:07 mile), Yared Nuguse (4:06 solo mile), Waleed Suliman (1:51 / 4:04 mostly solo 1600), and Alex Scales (1:50.6 / 4:09.9 split).
As for where, look to the Brooks PR meet for a showdown, or maybe the Boston Boost Games. I doubt any of them will head to New Balance
Well not from the US, but Jakob Ingebritsen (16) will prob break it this year. He ran 3:43 1500 yesterday in his first race this season with a 3:42 PR.
What races are left for all/most of them to run together? Nationals?
bump, i'd like to know too. Any races lined up?
Brooks Mile
I wonder if any of this year's high school stars will run in either men's mile race at the Prefontaine Classic (Saturday, May 27th - only a week and a half away).
Drew Hunter, Michael Slagowski, and Austin Tamagno - three of last year's four fastest high school milers (the fourth being Thomas Ratcliffe), ran in last year's Pre Classic. Hunter, with the goal of breaking Alan Webb's high school mile record, was entered in the elite Bowerman Mile (where he went sub-4), while the other two high schoolers were in the lesser mile race (still impressive). Slagowski also broke 4:00 (beating Olympic silver medalist Leo Manzano), while Tamagno hit 4:01.
My guess is that since 4:00 has not been broken yet this year, and Webb's record is seemingly safe, no high school guys will be allowed into the Bowerman Mile. But the second mile competition? I haven't seen any entry lists yet.
I think the Pre Classic conflicts with the California state meet. Not sure about other states.
We definitely have the sub-4 high school mile potential at the Brooks PR meet on June 17th. And with luck Pre will allow one or more high schoolers in for a chance at sub-4. Maybe another meet will have the honor of a high school sub-4, like in 2015, when Matthew Maton (May 8 - already passed in 2017) and then Grant Fisher (June 4) broke 4:00 in separate smaller meets.
As a fan, I'm looking forward to the next few weeks and hoping at least one of this year's crop of talented middle distance stars breaks 4:00.
This is why they should've race Dogwood.
I hope someone does it before they graduate!
If they got DJ principe, sam worley, reed brown, casey clinger, waleed suliman, cooper teare, and probably a few other guys in a race with good pacemakers (aka no 57 sec 1st lap) I think that at they very minimum 4 or 5 of them would break 4.
DJ is running Pre.
With the exception of Brazier's 1:47 800, Brooks traditionally hasn't had times as fast as other meets like Pre, Adidas Meet of Champs, or the Adidas Dream Mile. I think the stadium where Brooks is held is in an area that is too windy for a very fast time.
That being said, Cooper Teare ran 4:01 in 83 degree and slightly windy weather, with pretty much no competition. He definitely has the capacity to run ~3:57 if he is in a race with competition past 800 meters.

Drew V grant in the 2 mile was fast
Until last year all the boys did the dream mile over brooks, now brooks has become the bigger deal for the mile since the adidas meet isn't a diamond league meet anymore.
This year's Brooks PR Invitational is at Renton Memorial Stadium in Renton, WA, same as in 2014 and 2016. It was at Shoreline Stadium in Seattle in 2015. I haven't looked up where it was before 2014.
Is is one, or both, of these stadiums where wind tends to be expected?
Am I right in thinking that Hayward Field typically has a breezy backstretch?
Renton seems to be always windy, Shoreline 50% of the time (they got lucky for Candace Hill's record). The least windy local venue is the Tacoma Bowl, but not sure if that is still operational. There are a few other local HS tracks that are well-protected by trees (Lakeside, Interlake) but likely can't handle a larger meet like this as well.

The 2 mile is fast every year. It doesn't have as many break 9 as arcadia, but the top guys usually run a bit faster or at least a faster equivalent since it is a full 2 miles. It is probably the fastest 3200/2mile race in the nation for high schoolers.
WOW. thank you. I cannot believe you know/typed all of that out. i appreciate it and thanks for posting

The Midwest kids will have the option to race at the Festival of Miles in early June in Stl. Fisher broke four there two years ago in the pro race.
no problem, I was bored and had the time to type it out. I'd like to work with milesplit or something to help promote the sport, but it's hard to find chances to get started.
