no no no...don't you remember the post race interview. Ches "let Jenkins win."
I remember that lol. I wonder how bad he would lose to Jenkins these days
I watched the race, and the Scottish looks 28 even though apparently he is not. That said, Ches gave up when they hit the bell lap and he was making no distance to close on the Scot. I think Ches is tired and needs some time off.

Nah. it was his stomach. He'll drop a 2lb growler tonight and be ready to go in the morning.
What's Lauren Fleshman doing in the race?
ches didn't let jenkins win. he thought he had blown away the field with 100-150 to go in that 3k, but jenkins blew past him like nothing, at which time ches didn't even have time to get jenkins (jenkins did this to centro at 5th ave., but at the very finish when there was no time to respond) and when he saw him he figured there was no point in even trying since they were on the same team--hence, the claim that he let him win. But in the 5000m outdoors, after taking jenkins by surprise with a hard kick against him in the 10, Cheserek put on a kick against Jenkins where they both knew and were going for it and Ches was the better man easily. The tables have since turned.
Nice
Hahahaha. So happy that overhyped queen lost again....this time to a 19 year old!! Hahahaha!!

If Ches is going to lose in a mile it's usually in a bizarre style.
This race was super physical Ches got bounced around then tried to make a big move but then there was another move behind him.
Reminded me a bit of when Jordy Williamsz beat him at Penn.
Also can we not that American's never beat Ches, it's always foriegners... the USA NCAAers need to nut up and stop being so intimidated.
taking away ches' quick acceleration seems to be the way to beat him. all those little spurts in the first half of the race, and the guy from colorado moved at the same time as ches at one point and ches lost a lot of energy trying to go around him. Ches also has some tells. when he is fresh and just waiting to sprint his form is very choppy like he is just trying to stay in second even though the pace is so slow. Also when he sprints he opens his hands. During this race he was not choppy behind the New Mexico guy, so the pace was fast enough that ches could not conserve energy for kick, when he did the open hand kick he did not immediately pass, and once that spurt was gone so was his one gear.
King Ches is the best in NCAA history. But he got beat fair and square by a 19 year old who ran a fantastic race. Why do people on this message board have to tear down anyone who does anything successful? That mindset only brings down our sport. Lets always celebrate everyones success, and not focus on the negative. Thank you.
3:09.6 for kerr with 2 laps to go, 53.6 for the last 400m (4:03.22 time). Cheserek at 17 titles should be above reproach. He had already won the 5000m and qualified in the mile, with the 3k to go. In my opinion, he saw that Kerr was decidedly better than him in the last 200m and that he could not possibly defeat him, and that was why he started to slow the last 100m. Kerr looked like he is going to win multiple mile/1500m titles like Oregon's Mac Fleet.
Kerr's mile PB is 3:59.90 (achieved in the preliminaries)
When is the last time that an NCAA mile winner had such a slow mile PB? Of course, he could probably run faster than that (but he hasn't). It has to be in the 80s or even before...
(His PB prior to this weekend? 4:03.34 in altitude of course, but...)
A freshman Cheserek who is just running the mile would have beaten a senior Cheserek running all the distance events over a 36 hour period.

I know all the LRC freaks would have smoked the mile and the 5K...Perhaps he did what he could in the mile, but once it looked like he was going to expend to much energy he coasted so that he had enough gas to run a quality 5K.

Have you ever heard of Colby Gilbert of Univ. of Washington? Born in the USA. First to beat Chez.
I just wish Ches would show a bit more class and respect for his opponents. They asked him about losing the mile after the 3k and he didn't quite make excuses but like the loss to Jenkins the focus was "me, me, me".

Yeah I thought that was pretty cool. Definitely a true championship style racer, kind of reminds me of Zach Perkins from Airforce. Although Perkins didn't win he finished 2nd two years in a row in the NCAA 1500, I think his PR is still 3:41.

Obviously those altitude conversions are garbage. Good point.
For what it's worth, these guys were all over Josh Kerr almost a year ago.
