We need Congress to enact a citizenship verification law in order to vote.
A complete waste of money. Voter fraud is a nothing-burger. Failure to secure elections from nefarious people --Trump and his people -- is the real election problem lies. Republicans refuse to spend a single dime to protect the 2018 elections. That is all you need to know about what they believe in -- election manipulation by Russia is okay as long as that helps Republicans "win" tainted elections.
Voter suppression is literally thousands of times more real and significant than voter fraud, yet somehow the publicity level is reversed. Republicans quietly scheme to suppress votes in state after state, particularly the ones in which they control all the branches of government plus secretary of state. They will cut back the number of voting machines in heavily minority districts. They get rid of early voting on Sunday to prevent the "Souls to the Polls" tradition of black churches. They impose restrictive voter ID laws to the point they actually brag about the strategic impact:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98hw3lVIC0QThere are countless examples. Bush 43 never would have won Florida in 2000 and become president in the first place if his brother Jeb hadn't scrubbed the voter rolls of ex-felons beginning two years earlier. He used the infamous secretary of state Katherine Harris on the scheme, which was designed to remove African-Americans from the voter rolls and didn't care if they had committed felonies or not. If the name was the same they didn't bother to check. They'd remove them anyway, if the name, gender and race matched. Some of the people removed already had their voting rights legally restored, but then were removed again anyway during the purge, for no reason other than to aid the Republican cause.
Here's a segment of one related article:
"Of the “matches’ on these lists, the civil-rights commission estimated that at least 14 percent – or 8,000 voters, nearly 15 times Bush’s official margin of victory – were false. DBT claims it warned officials “a significant number of people who were not a felon would be included on the list”; but the state, the company now says, “wanted there to be more names than were actually verified.” Last May, Florida’s legislature barred Harris from using outside firms to build the purge list and ordered her to seek guidance from county elections officials. In defiance, Harris has rebuffed the counties and hired another firm, just in time for Jeb Bush’s reelection fight this fall."
