Has this happened to you before? Have you still been coughing up some blood in the hours after the workout. If so, you might want to make sure that there is no internal bleeding going on.
Take care of yourself. If it was just during the workout, hopefully someone else can speak to it but it has never happened to me running.
I experienced this in like 20° but windy weather. My lip had cracked and were bleeding from the cold.
It's possible your throat got really dry due to heavy breathing and lack of fluids/saliva and this was the cause of the blood. This wouldn't or shouldn't be heavy blood loss though.
I've experienced a variation on this theme after hard efforts. I have never seen blood in my spit, but I definitely get a slightly coppery bloodlike taste in my mouth and can almost smell it on my breath. I've never really worried about it - it happens frequently enough that if something were really wrong, it would have manifested itself by now. And now that the other poster mentions it, it does seem more prevalent in the cold.
Do you mean visible blood or just that blood taste?
If you think your gums are bleeding, then you should see a dentist.
It happens everytime when i feel like my heart was going to burst out of my chest on long hill repeats
just blood taste
Seems pretty common. I've gotten it, too (the taste), especially when running hills or stairs.

Normal. Especially if you have even a hint of EIA.
Isn't that just an indication of lactic acid buildup?
Don't worry about it. Man up and chase the pain.
Do you actually see blood? I get a bloody taste in my mouth but I found out that is actually he byproduct of going ham when running, you build up so much lactate that it spills into your mouth from your bloodstream. Its not blood, it just taste sorta like blood.
If you actually SEE blood u might be gritting your teeth.

One time. After hours of pleasuring my lady orally on the last day of her cycle.
never while running.

Exactly, not blood in the mouth but the sensation of the taste of blood in the mouth.
I always thought that this was a common experience among competitive runners. Judging from the respnses I guess not. It always seems to happen during hard workouts, specifically in the spring on warm days. 10x400 workouts would do the trick. Perhaps due to dry mouth?
While I'm sure it probably has happened from time to time during XC and indoors, the only time I have any real recollection is during the Springtime.
Anyone else?
Maybe it is just an indicator that not enough folks are "going HAM" often enough.
I experience in all kinds of conditions, but probably notice it less often in warmer weather.

All of the above. It is apparently from micro-tears due to irritation/dryness.
A much more vigorous warm-up will mitigate it but it can be hard to time a strenuous warm-up correctly.
It's definitely a degree of EIA and something in the spring air likely brought yours out more specifically in that scenario. Pollen/mold spores from exposed mud in the spring etc.
See a dentist to get your teeth fixed.
I notice it the most in the winter when racing/working out hard on an indoor track.

I notice it the most in the winter when racing/working out hard on an indoor track. I always assumed it was from some combination of the very dry air drying your throat out and most indoor tracks having iffy air quality 'scratching' your throat. That and its much warmer than outside where 95% of training occurs in the winter so my body isn't well adapted to the heat.
