Doing strength building. Preparing for a hilly half trail marathon in January.
.3 miles, back and forth over a moderate hill (biggest hill in the area, which isn't all that big). I start a quarter mile from the crest, run to the top, and keep running the extra .5 just to ingrain good habits (of not slowing down at the top of a hill), then jog to the bottom of the other side of the hill, turn around, and repeat.
If you were drawing a diagram of what I just said, you noticed that I am running slightly farther than I am jogging.
Should I be running these at something close to my mile pace? 5k pace? Tempo pace? I am currently running slightly faster than my 5k pace, and during the second half (of 10 reps), I had to walk for about 10-15 seconds to catch my breath before I started jogging down the the bottom.
Does that sound about right? Or should I be running at a pace that would keep me from having to walk? Or should I be running FASTER, so that I have to catch my breath after each one?
Thanks :-)
