I'm glad Rupp didn't just run the 10,000. Nice to have him throw his hat into this race.

Yeah, but by running the 10,000 first, I was afraid he was trying to wear too many hats.

Rupp was concerned about that too, but AlSal reassured him.
"If you can't do well at both, I'll eat my hat."

Rupp allegedly replied, Ok, then. I'll train hard! Hold onto your hat!

AlSal supposedly said, "Good. Marathon training will be old hat to me."

Rupp then said, Well, let's keep quiet about this marathon thing. Keep it under your hat.

AlSal then told Rupp, "Well, you can probably make the US team in the 5, 10, and marathon, then in Rio we can go for the hat trick."

It was a brilliant strategy to wait until the olympics to unveil this technique. Impressive he was able to keep it under his hat for so long.
10/10

Al Sal promised him that if he did both races Nike would give him a free
vacation to Cape Hatteras.
With all the b!tching and whining about this, it seems a lot of jealous people are drinking the hatter aid.
Yup Hatters gotta Hat.
This bronze medal is another feather in Rupp's cap.

A bronze medal does a good job of proving he didn't lose focus while competing.
Is a bronze good enough? Maybe he could have been gold, or silver. They clearly put in a strong surge to gap him when he grabbed one of the final hats at an aid station.
Nice!
He was definitely the top Cat in the Hat today.
The Rupp haters will really flip their lids when they find out about this. NOP fanboys will be bowled over!

Saazar hasn't had a ton of success coaching the marathon, but Rupps performance here is one that Alberto can hang his hat on.
The hats had tiny radio receivers in them so Coach could tell Rupp what to do at every point in the race. But the batteries are so tiny, to save size & weight, that they only last about 5 minutes, so the caps have to be swapped.
You all are one of the only reasons I come back to this site. So tired of the bashing, sometimes silliness is just what is needed!

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
