I have ran about 400 miles in my Mizuno Wave Rider 19's in the past 3 months. Is it NECESSARY to replace them, or can I get a few hundred more miles out of them?

My rule of thumb is that I don't replace shoes until they start to look significantly worn in the soles. For me (115 lbs, running mostly on asphalt) that's something like 1000 miles. No way am I going to shell out for a new pair of shoes every month, which is what the "experts" (presumably all connected to shoe companies) say.
Right around where you are seems to be the conventional wisdom, but depending on your body type and running form, you may be able to go longer.
I am a serious pronator and an overstrider, so I really beat the hell out of my trainers, so I tend to replace them every month or so, especially if I am marathon training. It is expensive, but if the alternative is an increased likelihood of injury, it is worth the money for me since I can afford it.
I would also agree with the other post - if you don't see any wear patterns, you can probably push it a little longer (the outsole on my trainers gets worn through on the outside edge after a month for me - that is part of why I feel that every month is the right schedule for me); but note that the midsole can break down and not be as supportive or cushioning even if the outsole has not broken down.
Right before you wear a complete hole through the sole.
Shoes should only protect your feet from the ground not provide cushioning and support.
If you depend on them for cushioning and support, you are weakening yourself.
Be strong.
Strengthen.
If your feet, knees, legs and hips feel fine then there is no reason to replace the shoes. I usually detect slight knee pain when it is time to pitch a pair of old shoes.
I recommend rotating across 2-3 pairs of shoes at a time to keep from developing dependence on one pair. Since shoe models change slightly about every 6 months it is hard to find anything that is exactly like your favorite pair once they change.
