Say a miler has run a barely sub 5 mile and 10:50s 3200 and 18:20's for 5k. Could he if he trained really hard be under 2:30 marathon and winning ultras?

After checking statsgansta it says that you're best event is the mile. Your progression to the marathon is about 3:05. Therefore it seems very unlikely you could drop 35 minutes.
How old are you?
If you're under 22 you can basically do anything depending on how hard you work and how much time you have to dedicate.

That calculator isn't going to tell you anything about actual marathon potential. Especially since the 5k was XC making the input garbage. A high schooler still has plenty of room to improve, 2:30 marathon is not out of the question at all one day.

The problem is people saying training really hard, but they don't mean it or have no idea.
Sage has 2:15 marathon speed, and Walmsly? 2:12. So 5:09 a mile and 5:02 a mile for 26. They can probably drop a pile of 5:30's
It seems to me that wide variety of runners in terms of speed can dominate ultras. Zach Bitter has been setting records all over the place especially track ultras and his marathon is only in the 2:30s
http://zachbitter.com/accomplishments.php
Also Scott Jurek only ran 2:40 and Rob Krar ran really fast on the track 3:44 1500 and 1:51 800.
Yes he could. That doesn't mean he will. The other times will get better though as he trains for the marathon.
What school do you go to? Lmao
Brutal honesty - "barely sub 5 mile" doesn't qualify as mediocre.

Until you run the miles, you won't know.
There was a runner in the 1970's who could barely break five but ran 2:28 for the marathon on 80-90 mpw.
OP,
Your 4:59 and 10:50 show that you haven't really trained at all yet.
Fully trained as an adult, a 4:59 implies about a 2:37 marathon. In order to get to the 2:37, you first have to run the 3200 in 10:20, then a track 5000 in about 16:20 and a track 10000 in 33:45 or so. Since your 3200 is much slower than 10:20, as you keep running, your 4:59 will also improve.
Since we really don't know how little (just that you haven't trained much) you have trained, we can't guess what you could do in the future.

This was at the end of HS where I tried to run as many miles as I could in the winter and was plagued with injuries in the spring. Those times could have been better but it did not happen. And what classifies as not very much training?
Freshman mileage: Began running so not much barely broke 6 minutes that year
Sophomore: Started running more hit high of about 50 per week in the summer ran 5:23 and 11:48
Junior: Consistently ran 50 per week with 2 hour long runs and a day off ran 5:01 and 10:57 in the summer I hurt my back and could not run for a month but managed to build up to 60 per week before cross
Senior:Ran a high of 85 one week but was inconsistent with mostly 60-70 mile weeks but eventually got over trained and injured which carried through to track probably not enough sleep and stress contributed.
During the season we hardly ever do more than 40 mpw. But I was the guy on the team who ran the most miles most of the time.
Bump
Mediocre is in the eyes of the beholder.
I'm beholdin' a crappy miler.

Sure. When you go from running 15mpw to say 100mpw, you might find you go from a 5 min miler to 4:20 miler. And 4:20 is plenty fast enough to run 2:30.
As far as Ultras, they are bunch of joggers so sure why not.
