I used to work right in the middle of that course, ran a mile loop around the block for a couple of hours every night up to midnight and never had any problem.

Spectate around USC and Exposition park and you'll be fine. Bring some cash and one credit card along with the sunscreen, water, and a chair and leave the rest.

The mayor knows this is a demonstration, so Figueroa should be pretty cleaned up. Once the runners hit the USC end of Figueroa it's fine.

It's a terrible place to have a marathon, but clearly the city's grandfathers want taxpayers to fund another Olympics, so putting up ~$1 mill for this event in exchange to transfer billions of taxpayer funds is no problem.

Lots of other places in the city would have been better.

Yeah, I blew that. That is what you get for posting a rant on Monday morning when you first get into work. But that just makes my point even more. Why not start the trials at 7 am and have decent weather? Sure, it is nice to take our best runners and treat them like lab rats to see who survives hot weather the best. But our best athletes are not lab rats. Hot weather races are dangerous. Remember the duel in the sun? And past experience with the trials shows that course simulation doesn't mean squat. The best US team in recent history was 2004. Athens was blazing hot. Meb won silver and Kastor bronze. The men's trials were held in Birmingham, AL on a chilly February morning. The women's race was in St. Louis and started at 7 am with warmer, but still good conditions. In both races, the eventual medalists were runners up. This year we are going to completely shred our best athletes in the heat and hope they can mend up by August.

Max King has hot weather experience. When all the little babies fade away, Max will rip his way through the buttholes, down the chute, and blow it right across the finish line. He's got it.

I'm not sure if this was done on purpose, but I think it works out well. It's going to be warm in Rio, and dealing with heat is something that runners react to differently. Having a warm trials race will help pick the best team.

I don't buy the argument that it will be too harsh on the athletes. It will be in the 70s and dry, which isn't ideal but it could be worse. Plus the Olympics are 6 months away, recovery is a non-issue.

What time is the Rio Olympics Marathon? Is it a morning or night start?

I'm in Los Angeles and the whole week is going to be in the 80s. Today it might even hit 90. I think it's gonna change the outlook of the race completely. All those training in cold weather are going to be F***ED!
