Are "flat-earthers" an actual thing?

But the videos of weather balloons do not support that do they. Also if you are right then why do supposed trust worthy organisations put out videos such as the one below. You can't have it both ways.

4. Although some understand it as a troll, many do not and can't resist, as he seems to be good at the troll, coupled with the fact that many people are apparently stupid and don't see it as what it is: a never ending, never resolved argument that is the very essence of a troll.

5. Thread disappears for a few months. Flat Earth Troll resurrects it, often by pretending to be someone who wants to argue with Flat Earth Troll. (repeat step 1).

Addendum: Although I have pointed out what this thread is all about in plain English, Flat Earth Troll will still, incredibly, be able to bury the post and continue making stupid people engage in the never-ending argument (see above posts).

It is nothing but rubbish regarding your belief in atmosphere rotation. The mass of the atmosphere (already very low) substantially decreases as you get higher in elevation, the increasingly lower mass atmosphere (the higher you go up) claimed gravitational pull of the Earth is lessened at higher altitudes and so the atmosphere CANNOT & DOES NOT move synchronously with the ground.

High-altitude skydivers should end up hundreds of miles away from their targets but always fall where they started (excluding extreme wind/weather patterns). Yet, that never happens.

Why is it when a volcano erupts, the plume goes pretty much straight up? Using your harebrained logic, if the Earth was indeed spinning, the top of the plume should be well pointed away from the rotation of the Earth at about 1,000 mph. Yet, that never happens either.

Your atmosphere argument fails. Try again.

You idiots who say you know it's a troll but are having fun with it, what is the fun? Nothing you will say, and I mean nothing, will result in him not having a bogus "answer" for. So it's not like you will eventually "stump him." There are a zillion ready made videos, cut-and-paste texts, and diagrams he can use.

Ah but they do. The videos show: 1) Landmasses indicating the scale of the visible earth below is around 600-700 km radius, with the rest of the earth being clipped from view (something a flat earth model cannot explain). 2) The horizon actually doesn't appear "at eye level", but quite visibly below. Eye-level should be half way between the top and the bottom of the image. On a flat earth, we shouldn't see our view clipped around 700 km, but instead of seeing a black band between the horizon and the middle of the "no fish eye lens" video image, we should see a large part of the rest of the earth. Expecting to see a left to right curvature only exposes a misunderstanding of what to expect from a globe earth model. To give a better sense of the what to expect, converting kilometres to feet, it would be like standing in the middle of a 400m circular track, on a footstool so your eyes are 7ft above it, then using a ruler to look for the curvature of the track. This miniature scale globe slice passes through you, at waist level, at a height of 3.5 feet -- and the track represents where your field of view is clipped at the horizon. Since the track is flat, and your vantage point is merely 7ft above it, the visible horizon all around you, for 360 deg, should appear fairly flat, according to a globe model. This is an experiment and observation everyone can approximate at their local track, despite tracks not being circular, and most people being shorter than 7ft. Not sure what you want to show with the Felix Baumgartner jump. It's meant to show a jump, without making an accurate statement about the shape of the Earth.

The atmosphere originates from the spinning earth, initially spinning with it. It is not held in place by gravity (or ripped apart by shearing forces). As it goes higher, into the upper atmosphere, it maintains most of its initial velocity due to conservation of angular momentum, until it is acted on by other outside forces (which are complex and many). This explains why the atmosphere (excluding extreme wind/weather patterns) doesn't generally blow skydivers off-course, why volcano plumes go up, and why the atmosphere doesn't blow planes forwards, or backwards, or sideways. Your atmosphere argument fails. Try again.

Your entire problem arises due to your incapability of understand basic physics (mechanics) and inability to use the very little understanding you have to logically evaluate the nature around you.

Newton's first law of motion tells us that an object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an external unbalanced force.

Since you are currently on Earth that rotates at certain speed (and btw also orbits around Sun which in turn orbits around Milky Way galaxy center) you are in motion already. If you jump up in the air you still have this motion and you continue to move along with Earth. The same applies to airplanes and other objects that fly above Earth. There are no forces that can take away this initial motion except some weak forces like gravity, resistance etc.
