Flotrack just posted an article saying ches isnt the GOAT yet. I've seen some people call him "undoubtedly the best ever" while others say "he isnt even close". Thoughts?

Henry Rono>Ches
Top 3, lets see what he does in the next year and a half
Yes, EOT
Everybody gives Ches crap for being "old", but have we forgotten that Rono was older as a freshman than Che's is now?
Until Ches breaks the following World Records in a span of 81 days or less: 3000m, 5000m, 10,000m and the 3000m steeplechase, Henry Rono remains the GOAT. Flotrack is clueless.

Helps when you're 15 years older than your competition

How?
Definitely GOAT! Greatest masters runner competing at the DI level evah!!!
Rono was 26 yrs old in 1978. Exaggerate much?

In any case, he wasn't of normal college age. But was he a collegiate runner? Yep. So he qualifies.
People should set an age range for this title of "GOAT collegiate runner" or rename it to "GOAT runner in early 20s" if that's what they're looking for.

Really, it's easier to break world records when you're 15 years older than your competition?
Rono was a GREAT runner but he was a grown man running against much younger competition for t he most part. That seems like a rather unfair advantage. Can you imagine if Galen Rupp was allowed to run for Oregon in his mid to late 20's? How much would Galen dominatr NCAA compeition?
John Treacy was pretty good at Providence.
GOAT?
That would be Gerry...
Jim Ryun
Broke the mile world record twice
Broke the 1500m world record
Broke the 880y world record
Broke the American 2 mile record
Olympic Silver Medal
Yeah King Ches is the goat he'll add 2 more National Championships in indoor and 2 more outdoor this year. He might have the Most Individual National Championships after his Junior year in College but if not he certainly will after his senior year.
what happens when Ches breaks 13 while still in an Oregon jersey... Probably this spring if he wanted to... Then is he the GOAT?
It comes down to the age old debate between finishing times and championships earned.
Depending how you look at it any of the following, and more I'm sure, could be in the running:
Cheserek - 9-NCAA Champs 3:56 / 13:18
Ryun - 1:44.9 / 3:51.1 At least 5 NCAA Championships 4 World Records
Prefontaine - 7 NCAA Championships - At least 7 American Records - 3:54 / 13:22
Lindgren - 11 NCAA Championships. (His only loss at an NCAA championship was to Jim Ryun in the 1968 indoor 2-mile) Personal Bests:
3 miles (4.8 km) - 12:53.0 (1966) Collegiate and American Record
6 miles (9.7 km) - 27:11.6 (1965) Collegiate and World Record
3000 meters - 7:58 (1965) Collegiate and American Record
5000 meters - 13:33.8 (1968) Collegiate and American Record
10000 meters - 28:40.2 (1967) Collegiate and American Record
Henry Rono - At least 6 NCAA Championships 4 World records 13:08 / 27:22
A couple of things... Did Pre never run indoor nationals? And why? Did the Ducks have something against Detroit?
Ryun doesn't appear to have run XC. Taking those championships out he's right in there, but is that fair to everyone else?

What does being a grown man or not have to do with it? Age doesn't matter. It's about how long you've been training. If you wanted to put a limit based on the number of years trained, that would make more sense.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
