A quick review of how the Detroit Public Schools are doing...
26% HS graduation rate
-Only 1/3 of students score higher than partially proficient on standardized tests
-No students scored advanced on standardized tests
-Corruption by administration
-50% of schools closed down and were stripped of everything inside (walls, pipes, everything except textbooks of course)
-reams of paper stolen from DPS offices
-Low attendance
-Most of class time is spent calming the animals(err students) down
-Board members challenging members in the audience of public board meetings to fights
-22 council meetings each month so they can charge food on the Detroit dime
-A woman that wanted to improve things was run out by corrupt admins.
-Sex in stairwells
-Oral sex in classrooms
-Teachers drinking in the classroom
-one four year class had locker fires, bomb threats, a gun going off in class, a beating that led to a death
-$100 million surplus to $350 million deficit in seven years
-$40 million wire transferred out of the system to who knows where..
-idiotic school board: We didn't do nothing. It's not our fault
-5/194 schools had proper bookkeeping
-missing cash receipts
-Checks written directly to staff for no reason
-Benefits paid to dead staff
-rampant theft of funds
-video tapes of three years of a teachers/staff/etc. stealing computers
-hundreds of phones purchased on school money
-warehouse of motorcycles paid for on school money
