my plan wrote:
I'm planning to go out at about 4:35 mile pace for the first 20 miles and to drop that down to 4:34 for the next five miles and then play it by ear for the last 1.2 miles to try to hold on for the 1:59:59.
I'm thinking about taking three gels at the 6, 12, and 18 mile marks and taking down plenty of fluids.
do you think that the lead pack will try to stick with me for a while, or will I have a solo escort to the finish line?
Are any of you willing to pay for a sponsorship? I would be willing to wear a coca cola shirt or some other corporate whore sellout shirt for $10,000
If you hang on to that pace you may succeed.
Taking gel tablets at designated points will help.
The pack will probably let you go thinking, 'no point sticking with this guy he's going to crash for sure.' A pacer will have to jump into race last five miles.
Can't advise you on last thing.
I did this, 1983, London Marathon and despite my achievement, 1:59:57 no one believed me then and nobody wants to talk about it to me even now. They all say I pulled a couple of Rosie Ruizes at different points of the route. This idiot from San Francisco who was hellbent on going under 2 1/2 hr. without not even enough training to see him through a decent 10 miler and who dropped out at 18 1/2 miles went to the RD's to say I didn't run the entire marathon - which I most certainly did!! He was still pissed at me because I beat him in a chess game! Also his ex GF an elite Kiwi marathoner pulled off a 2:24 to win!
