Last Friday, I went out on a easy run and noticed that I felt discomfort in my ankle when running downhill (right where the tibia meets the talus bone). I didn't think much of it because it didn't affect my run form/stride. I did a long run Saturday and I felt the same thing but this time it was worse. I woke up Sunday and my ankle was swollen around the lateral ankle join and on top (tibia/Talus region). I was stupid enough to run that afternoon and same thing hurt as previously. I took Monday off and it was sore walking around. I attempted to run Tuesday and I couldn't only get a 0.25miles before calling it quits. I tried running Wednesday AM and I couldn't run down the driveway. It was tight and sore to run. I had Ortho doc who said it looked like maybe I pinched/nipped something in my ankle (impingement). I had synovitis of the ankle and told me to take it easy until swelling is gone down and I feel hardly anything walking. I was also instructed to take scheduled NSAIDs. It feels alot better today(thanks probably to the NSAIDs). I can walk now without feeling much. I pressed all over my ankle/foot and I feel no sharp pain or anything. What is causing this? I'm not convinced this is impingement but some kind of overuse injury (training for ironman). But I want to know what is causing this and where its coming from. Anyone?
