Which is the hardest Olympic team event to earn a place:the U.S. 110 hurdles, Kenya 5,000 or Ethiopia 3,000 steeplechase?
To start off, I will suggest Kenya 5k.
Or is there a tougher team/event/nation? Iike Jamaica 100?

The Kenyan Steeplechase team is more difficult to make than either the Kenyan 5000m or the Ethiopian Steeplechase team.
Good point....Kenya is tough from 800 up to marathon for men.Probably women too.Ethiopia women's 5k is not an easy shotHow about US women 100 hurdles...?

Ethio steeple?
Zemzem (no longer runs the steeple) , Ayalew, assefa..
That is basically the Ethio team.
as for the men, there used to be jarso and nahom mesfin and roba Gari.
That's it.
Unless you were talking about KEnya, Ethiopia has no competition in their steeple.
AS for your Kenya, I'd say Kenyan men's 5000m as well as the marathon.
US 100
Oops!
I meant; 'as for your question...'
In Kenya it's damn hard to make a team from 800m to thon for men and women. In Ethiopia it's damn hard to make a team from 5k to marathon for men and women. In the US it's damn hard to make a team in both hurdles, the sprints, and mid D for men and women. In Jamaica It's hard to make any sprint/hurdle team except the men's and women's 400h and the women's 100h.
Kenyan men's steepe right now;
1. Jairus Kipchoge Birech
2. Ezekiel Kemboi
3. Conseslus Kipruto
4. Hillary Kipsang Yego
5. Ng'ang'a Bernard
6. Brimin Kipruto
7. Paul Koech
8. Abel Mutai
9. Jonathan Muia Ndiku
10. Gilbert Kirui
11. Clement Kemboi
5000m
1.Edwin Soi
2.Paul Tanui
3.Caleb Ndiku
4.Thomas Pkemei Longosiwa
5.Lawi Lalang
6.Isaiah Koech
7.John Kipkoech
8.Bernard Kimani
9.Cornelius Kangogo
10.Emmanuel Bett
11. Bedan Karoki
12. James Macharia
Looks like some small European countries and maybe the U.S. will get some new citizens in the coming years.
Small country like Singapore can load up on Kenya expats and become world class in distances in a few years.
Runners from Somalia, Ethiopia also welcome.
Nationality is just a name on the passport cover.
No one country has dominated an event like the Kenyans have in the steeplechase. Since 1968, they've won every gold and 70% of the total medals in steeples they've competed in.
It's easier to win a medal in the steeplechase than it is to make the Kenyan team.
lets not forget that some of the best steeplechasers in the world have left Kenya to make the olympics/world champs and have ended up winning medals for their new country

Why yes there is. USA basketball team.
Kenya's team is more difficult to make because there's no clear selection method.

In 100m hurdles:
US women comprise the top 4 runners who hold 2014's top 10 times. 9 of the top 11 runners and 13/16. Of the top 47 times posted in 2014, 38 are held by USA.
In men's steeple:
Kenyan men comprise the top 4 runners who hold 2014's top 9 times. Evan Jager is 5th in world with 10th fastest time this year. Only 8 of top 11 and 10/16 are Kenyan. Of the top 47 times, 33 are held by Kenyans.
In men's 5k:
Kenyan has #1, #3, #5, #6, #9(lawi lalang). More American in top 10 (3) than Ethiopians (1). In top 16, America has 6 to Ethiopia's 2 (Kenya has 7).
