I had bi lateral sports hernia surgery by Dr Meyers 7/2009......the surgery corrected the sharp pain and allows me to run...but to this day I have pubic pain ( very sore to the touch) and it also radiates/burns down thru groin.....It will switch sides etc due to what ever side is tighter at the time...
The past year I finally had some nerve blocks done int he area...there are three nerves that run right thru the surgery site...Illioingunial, Illiohypogastric and the Genital Branch of the Genital femoral nerve....any or all of these nerves can be involved...either damaged from the surgery, or entrapped in scar tissue etc....The Nerve blocks I had done coompletely resolved the pain for the few hours the Lidocaine was active
Unfortunatly you will need another surgery to get whichever nerve is involved excised ...if not all of them.....all 3 are very close and run thru the same area so could be hard to tell which on it is unless the nerve block is done in the correct area.....Conclusive findings for me was the Genital on the left and the Illioguinal on the right...question of the Illihypgastric on right cause it is right next to the Inguinal one.....On the left I had the Illioinguinal nerve excised on 2/2011 during a seperate hernia surgery...the nerve was entrapped in scar tissue, rubbing against the hernia and had a neroma .....felt better but still pain in the pubic area...thats when i found thru nerve block it was also the Genital branch nerve...which also showed up enlarged on the Ultra sound...tbis is what I mean it could be all of the nerves.....
So I have to decide to have the surgeon take care ofo the definite ones or just do them all....also to do 1 side at a time or do both ....seems to alwayss be question marks no matter what ..I will be consulting with him in another month and schedule the surgery around Nov....at least I know this will take care of the pain
Just wanted to throw this out there for others still suffering to see if this could be there problem that can be taken care of....#1 to do is Find someone that does nerve blocks using ultra sound guidance
GOOD LUCK!!
