It is apparent that people who criticize me here do not come even close to reading as much about market trends as I do, because if you did, you would know when it is that "everyone and their brother" is pumping money into stocks. Investor involvement is a HUGE topic pretty much all the time, and when investors flock to stocks, that information is readily available...but, you gotta be reading and listening to know when. The market is a BIG passion of mine, and so it would be VERY difficult for someone who does not have the same passion to know as much as I do about it.

Depends when you bought and how long you have held.
If you bought in early 2000 and have held since then you haven't kept up with inflation.

You claim that investment advisors add no value.
And you claim that large cap US stocks haven't much after tax return since 2000.
Here's the problem:
A good advisor will make sure that a portfolio is truly diversified, so you get those 15% per year returns from emerging markets, and 10% per year returns from mid cap, and the massive return from gold during the 2000-2013 period.
your dour description of the 'market' is proof of the value of a good advisor.

I thought that ad hominems had something to do with rejecting the claim of the author on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author himself. Further, I thought that this term is nearly always (though not necessarily) referring to some negative comment regarding the author.
1) I was agreeing with you, or at least suggesting that your method of "employ(ing) stops" makes good sense. As such I certainly was not rejecting your claim or trying to disrespect your methods.

2) I believe that stating that someone is "an intelligent individual" would usually be described as a positive statement about said individual. As such, it is difficult to understand how you might interpret this as a negative statement about yourself.
