According to Tegenkamp's hash tag on Twitter they are calling themselves Rip City Track Club. Rip City is a nickname for Portland that started with the Portland Trailblazers. Let's see if it sticks.

Portland has several nicks.
1 City of Roses
2 Bridgetown
3 Beervana
4 Little Beirut
5 P-Town
6 Rip City
7 Stumptown
8 PDX
I would have gone with Beervana, a combination of beer and nivana, honoring the fact that Portland has the greatest number of microbrewers per capita in the U.S.
Total crap name. Pity.

It also has highest concentration of titty bars in the US. Perhaps Strip City TC?

I was hoping this post was troll, but nikeman has street cred. Terrible name.
Rig City.

Sounds like a robot.
It's easy to rip the new name (yes, pun intended), but no one has suggested anything better.
What did you want them to be "The Rose Runners"?

umm, ever heard of the Money Badgers?... probly not, cause i made it up. but stumptown or bridgeport/city would make you think of portland more than rip city. sounds like a body building club.

Well, let's see. They run outside. The want to be fast and set new records. Hmmmm. How about Trail Blazers?

They are not Rip CIty TC. Teg posted that for a laugh. It would cost them royalties to the trail blazers just to use the name and it only has meaning to 1970s TB fans. For those that don't know the phrase it was coined by the old TB announcer who used it to call made baskets. Imagine Dick Vitale yelling "Rip CIty, Baby!" it has about that level of cool.
Who remembers this?
