This kid should aim for a sub-8:00 two-mile as well.

@Dennis - Don't compare Rupp to Webb and Fernandez. Rupp is a silver medalist you twat!

1)The the indoor season is still early
2) Outdoor is typically faster then indoor
3) He already ran 3:34 last year off of mostly 5k/10k work
He had to have been doing mile specific training before his 3:50.92 so imagine what he could run while doing a whole season of mile pace work. Thats the only way I believe he could run sub 3:30
Running 3:51.0 indoors now does not equate to sub 3:30 outdoors, whether it be now or in the summer. Ask Eamonn Coghlan! Never able to run as fast outdoors as indoors, and he was a specialist miler.
Rupp isn't a sub 3:30 talent. At his peak he may get dragged along to a 3:32, which is all he needs anyway as a 5 & 10 guy.

3:50.9 is a great time. World all-time lists in the mile are meaningless, though.
First statement / TRUE. Second statement / FALSE.
Your score = 50%
I just wanted to say that this is pretty good.
Please tell me someone has a video link to this?!?!?!?!

Or perhaps we should ask Sebastian Coe?
Coghlan was a head case who had it stuck in his brain that he was the king of indoors. His outdoor racing strategies left much to be desired.

When you're referred to as Chairman of the Boards by international sports journalists that could happen. Yes. Riddle solved.

Only one of the full race I've found so far. Love how loud the crowd was.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NEfdF9pZQABig shout out to Rupp-certified whatever his name is for once again ruining a thread and casting a shadow over a remarkable achievement.
Letsrun does it yet again. Continuing the denigration and degradation of track and field.
Kudos to the Brojos for entertaining such inane behavior. You guys are definitely the bestest.

Holy Moly... this kid seemingly has no limits. He can easily go sub-3:50 outdoors right now. Is he going to eventually challenge for the American mile record too? I figure he has this year and next to peak before he moves to the marathon (though could still compete in the 5,000/10,000. Maybe this will be the year. No way are the 3,000, 5,000, and 10,000 ARs going to hold if he runs them. I would love to see this kid at world cross.
I'm thinking marathon 2017.
This time kind of changes the game.
He can focus on the 5k for some time if he/AS choose.
I would be surprised if he had the same speed in 2016. I think he is coming into peak form right about now, maybe next year. We'll see.
Anyone think he has a shot at sub 7:25 or sub 8:00?
Rupp could probably go 3:49 outdoors. Mottram has a similar mile pr and ran a 12:55 5k, but his 10k best is only 27:30. You'd have to think Rupp could challenge 12:45 with his superior endurance. Exciting stuff.

+1
We're witnessing true greatness.
And they're too immature and stupid to recognize it.

I'd like to hear your reasoning.
Salazar has been completely careful to bring the guy along slowly, mileage and sprint wise.
Also, if you stood next to Rupp 3 years ago, he still looked like a kid up close, he still looked more high school, than post college.
Last year, he started looking like a young man. Physical maturity. He's 26. I don't think the "rules" for peaking at a certain age are the same for everyone.
We won't know, until we know.
Rupp is on his way to becoming GOAT American. Maybe even human.
Sub 3:30 and sub 26:30 is possible by the end of his career.
Best range ever?
Let's see. 12:58/26:48, Olympic Silver Medal, 3:50 solo indoors. What's there to criticize. Enjoy! There won't be very many Americans rising through the ranks whatever their advantages to run like this.
The best 1500 runners have never contested the mile very often. It is completely obscure on the European circuit. A Kenyan on the street does not have any idea how many meters there are to a mile.
Without the best actually running the even, this ranking means very little. It's like being 5th all-time in the 1000. Great. But not nearly as meaningful as a real event.
3:51.0 is worth about 3:33.7 for Rupp.[/quote]

lol
Listen I'm not a Rupp fan. But at this point, I'm not really surprised at anything Rupp does. He really is capable of anything. Silver medal? Why not? 3:50 indoors? Why not? Love him or hate him he is one of the best runners ever to live.
However, I still don't think he is the most talented ever. He is an example of how important coaching is. More importantly, he is an example of how important it is to be coached correctly from an early age.
Better video of the race. I think Alberto was excited?
