Texas would have no problem defending itself against the vast US military. We have - after all - the Alamo to fight off the intruders. Put five thousand heavily armed Texans and aint no one getting in!

Wasn't the US attempt at control of Somalia a good lesson in what a "superior" army goes up against when everyone in the general population has a gun?
If you get a large enough number of people the people willing to be "the first" will show up.

Neither is the American population. The Patriot Act has already proven that.
yep, almost as crazy as a bunch of primitive towelheads holding the mighty US military at bay for 12 years in the Hindu Kush with no satellites and fighter jets and tanks and missiles and bombs
The German Officer Corps circa WWII was outstanding. USMC Officer training was still using WWII era German small unit leadership techniques at least up until the early 90s.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I read this. I'm no historian but I could've sworn the Texans got their asses beat at the Alamo. Maybe not a good example of Texas holding out against a stronger force?

The Alamo sits on a plot of ground covering about 4500 Sq feet. Not so comfortable for 5000 heavily armed distance runners let alone a bunch of burly and manly Texans.

Will this happen before or after Texas becomes part of Greater Mexico?
You people are incredibly stupid. In order to overpower them you have to engage them, not resist them. Your also forgetting that the many american civilians are fat shits and would probably complain about having to carry their assault rifles.

That's exactly it. There were no fat people running around waving guns in Somalia, Afghanistan or Iraq (I know because I was there - in the movie theater). None of the 9/11 hijackers had to pay for 2 seats because of their obesity.
If you look at any popular uprising in history, they are either about economic deprivation, religion, foreign occupation or culture.
Economic deprivation only impacts about 15% of Americans, Canada has not occupied the US yet (comedians, news anchors and Zambonis excepted), we don't share common religious views and our culture mainly involves watching TV, shopping, eating fast food and shaving private parts.
These are not exactly the ingredients for a popular revolution.
Even if there was a popular uprising, could you see gun-toting rednecks fighting alongside inner city African American and Latino gangs? They would end up fighting each other.
most US military personnel would not take Obamas/Washington cronies orders if they were indeed told to crush a mass civilian uprising insurgency.
there wouldnt be 100 million people involved though, maybe 5 million.

So you're saying the fear that the US government will morph into a military dictatorship is completely unfounded?
Which begs the question... If Texas seceded, how long before Mexico or its drug gangs take it over?
Somalia - or more specifically the Blackhawk Down incident - was more about US Army ineptitude and the failure of UN bureaucracy and the poison effect of politics on warfighting than it was an example of successful civilian guerilla warfare vs. an organized, better equipped Army.
I believe the skinnies suffered 1000+ casualties in less than 24 hrs, while the US Army had less than 20..
Yeah I feel very confident that a conventional unorganized ground force would do very well against the US Army. Ha!! Interesting topic to read over though, but seriously....have you see what these platforms can to.....good talk...next thread please.
