It's been cancelled, end of story. WNBC just announced Mayor Bloomberg cancelled it.

Here's a link to back up the OP's rantings
Well I better be a me to get my money back now.
They should have just postponed it. Any word on that in his announcement?
oh no, the people who wanted SOMETHING TO WHINE ABOUT suddenly are in an inconvenient situation of having nothing to whine about...what wil they do now?
They could whine about fact that some may have already traveled there, could have saved money, could have attempted to obtain refunds or changes to hotel or plane reservations, etc. I'm sure there's something.
Runners and Joggers only care about themselves their precious "goals".
I had to have dinner with my Mother this PM who was watching FauxNews THE FIVE.
The life forms on the program were howling about the NYC marathon NOT being cancelled. They went on for some minutes about it.
Then the announcement was made...one of their people muttered that sounded like "...oh...uhhh...they cancelled it".
FauxNews is such excrement.
What the NYRR should have done right away is cancel it and make an announcement they would be donating blankets, food, and contracted hotel rooms to refugees. They would have come out of this smelling like a rose. Instead, it just reinforced the growing belief that runners are kind of selfish (and like to complain about imperfections of races over at marathonguide), though this perception is based on some real cases of me-ism out there, it's not true overall. Runners do a lot for charity.

NYC makes millions off this marathon. With this loss, they will have to figure out a way to make it back; probably by raising taxes. That will give them something new to whine about.

My guess is they needed the city to issue the directive for insurance purposes.
I remember saying how the decision was final and how everyone is mad. Then I was being accused of being against the cancellation. sigh. Hurricanes are bad and destructive but not hosting a marathon wont reverse it -_-
Unbelievable how badly they fvcked this thing. If they had cancelled it initially...no problem. This rope-a-dope stuff was crap. How would you feel if you were flying into NYC today for the race?
This is best case scenario to avoid further issues of purported violence and protests, but should have come earlier, and should have been announced as a postponement to a future date.
Losing money?? There are lots of would-be racers in the city right now spending money with no race to run.

Don't worry, raising taxes on the to 1% will pay for it, along with everything else in our country that is broken. O said so.

Yeah, this is the significant costly issue to hit NY in the last week.
NYC can generate the money the marathon brings in w/o much thought. It's New Freakin York.. NYCM is a drop in the bucket.
They wanted to get the as many of the runners into the city....then pull the Marathon out from under them... keeps at least the motels/ hotels and restaurants full.

+1. The ol' bait & switch. Cancel it earlier, giving those traveling in enough notice to avoid flights, or host it as initially announced. Either would have been ok in my eyes. But this is a racket... not surprising considering it is the home of Wall St.
